Myler comfort bits- has anyone used one or have one?

Looking for some feed back.
I have tried a single link and a lozenge snaffle (just cheap brands)
My boy is head tossing in his single link eggbut (not in the lozenge sweet iron loosing ring)
Although he wasnt head tossing he evaded contact and stuck his nose out.

Im thinking a Myler comfort Eggbut could be the happy medium.

Also when it comes to bits the prices vary enormously! with bits is it a case of buy cheap buy twice or is it simply just down to the horse to decide.
 
I’m a big fan of mylers, have the 02, 04 and 32 in my bitbox.
But I’d honestly save your money and put it instead into training, use the lozenge bit, I doubt this is fundamentally a bitting issue

I know a lot of it is schooling and that's down to me but in the single link we have been coming on amazing, the lozenge may have kept his head still but he didn't seem comfortable, the fact he was lifting his head, not just evading me makes me wonder if there was to much pressure on his tongue from the lozenge.

I know the bit wont magically make us fab riders but only having tried a different one for the first time its made me wonder if i could make him more comfortable.

I defo didnt think it was a bit issue, i presumed flies were just annoying him, only changed it on a whim and the zero head tossing stunned me!
 
Do you know what kind of mouth your horse has to see which bit would suit?

My WB has a small mouth, but a fleshy tongue so there's not much room in there! I started with the Myler comfort eggbutt which did fit his mouth perfectly and gave room for his tongue. I did, and still do, really like the bit. However, I changed him into a Bombers happy tongue loose ring, and he does prefer this one. Lots of room for his tongue due to the shape and he seems to prefer the loose ring to a fixed ring on the eggbutt.

I do agree that any bit isn't going to magically make your horse change his way of going without good training.

You could contact the bit bank and talk to them? I've heard good things and you can have bits on trial for 4 weeks I think and then send them back if you don't want them.
 
I would give it a couple of days before trying another bit, sometimes just a change will be enough to stop them doing whatever it is that makes us change in the first place because they are distracted by the new sensation, it may be that the single joint is putting pressure on the roof of his mouth causing the shaking and it may also be why he has been appearing to drop better into a contact while in it, he may be slightly behind to stay comfortable so take a few days to work in the lozenge and see if he settles to the contact in that before trying something else.
 
Last night (after a few expensive & fruitless years chasing down a comfy bit for my poor horse) I got a bitting consultant out to help my boy. Worth every penny - 2 very informative and useful hours for £55. Wish I'd done that 4 years ago.
 
Mylers are quite thin and don't collapse like normal single jointed or lozenge bits. They don't pinch as long as you have the right size and they're stable in the mouth. My horse wears a MB02 and goes very well in it, she also goes well in a Neue Schule Verbindend but can also ignore me as it's very mild. Basically, my horse has expensive tastes. But I still think a bit for £60 or so is a good investment. I always buy mine secondhand.
 
I like the myler loose ring comfort snaffle and use it a lot .
I prefer the horse to be able to move the mouthpiece hence the loose ring I think many horse prefer this .
 
I love my myler loose ring comfort snaffle! My lad is like a different horse in it!

I’d highly recommend taking to the horse bit shop and you can also trial bits from there.
 
You've changed two elements here - the mouthpiece and the ring so it could be the lozenge or it could be the loose ring that's making him hold his head higher. Can you find an eggbutt with a lozenge and see how that works....or a loose ring with a single joint?

I thought the loose ring aspect wasn't ideal. Because my hands and a work in progress the lose ring allows me to pester him more which i don't want. For now i just want a very simple bit that doesn't do the nut cracker action (in case this is the cause of the head shaking and i am noticing it more in summer as i ride more in summer)

I have ordered a Lock up Bomber eggbut snaffle and a myler comfort 02 to trial.

Has anyone used the lock up bombers? they claim to be a single link that doesnt do the nut cracker effect... cant find many reviews for them online :(
 
From what I can see, the lock up doesn't collapse as far as a normal single joint. It will still go further than a Myler though as the Myler has a barrel joint and only collapses a couple of cm.
 
See my boy actually prefers a loose ring, I always worried that they might pinch etc but he likes the fact he can move the bit himself I think and it isn't 'fixed'.
