We borrowed an 04 comfort snaffle with hooks and Toto really liked it , he usually gets strong at PC rallies but in this he seemed much better but still don't think daughter will have enough brakes or steering for XC and jumping , we were looking at either a kimblewick or full cheek myler but not sure what port or mouthpiece to use (cant use the myler combination for PC events) just wondered if anyone could offer any advice? , at his worst he leans down to run off and and has the odd bronc thrown in !

Probably useless answer but my horse leant terribly in a Myler and felt really strong.
How about a ported pelham with roundings so your daughter only has one rein for the xc.

I ride my mare in the 04 snaffle for every day riding but i use the 04 mouth piece in a pelham for x-country. My mare goes so much better as she hates tongue pressure.

hi the pelham you tried was it a mullen mouth? ie straight we use pelhams with french links as a mouth piece instead, this reduces the leaning

I use the full cheek comfort snaffle for dressage and the low ported mouthpiece on a kimberwick for jumping - mind you it can be difficult to get hold of some of the bigger sizes in the kimberwick for some reason. I love mine - Jenny is quite difficult to bit for jumping because she's quite strong/sharp but objects to anything with leverage action such as gags so finding a bit that gives me control without her objecting too strongly has been great.

Help!! Sorry to hijack your post, but I see you cannot use the Myler Combo for PC events, is that everyone or only members?? Am doing the open section of an event soon, & my mare is always jumped in her Myler, don't think we'll be too safe in a snaffle!!

Well Daughter is a member of the Quorn Hunt PC and when she did a ODE it had a list of bits you couldn't use and one of them was the Myler combo , might be an idea to give them a ring , personally I think its a stupid rule , if the horse/pony is safe and under control in a bit then you should be allowed to use it for XC , good luck for your event
