I'm getting a new bit for my 15.1 TB mare as she isn't going well in her loose ring snaffle.

I've done some research and myler or neue schule seem to be the best. What are your opinions?

I'm not sure whether to try another loose ring snaffle with a lozenge or french link, or go for an eggbutt possibly?

I'm getting her fit for BE at the moment. She isn't strong and never pulls or leans on the bit, however she doesn't seem happy in it and won't come into an outline. She has a small mouth so need a bit to accomodate that.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hey

I bought a neue schule loose ring snaffle with lozenge (tranz lozenge i think) about 6 weeks ago. My youngster was just leaning a bit in the eggbut snaffle and wasn't working in a consistent outline. Tried my mates kk sprenger and it was loads better but just couldn't spend the £90 on it. So rang neue schule and they were fab! I ordered my bit and have never looked back. My boy has a large tongue and 6inch mouthpiece and they made sure I had the right diameter bit as well as width for him. He goes really relaly nicely in it and has stopped leaning and taking hold of the bit and working nice and softly in it. He always gets a nice wet mouth in it too...white lipstick lol. I really like it. It is worth going on their website an ringing heather for some advice anyway :-)

see, ive been told that you should avoid myler bits if at all possible - something to do with the independant movement i think (cant remember exactly why)

But have heard only good about neue schule :)

I tried a Myler (comfort snaffle) and at first my lad went well in it, but after a few sessions he started to really dislike it. I've tried allsorts in the past, but recently spoke to Heather from Neue Schule and she recommended a loose ring lozenge (can't remember which one), but it fits beautifully and my lad is the softest he's ever been -no leaning no pulling. I was very impressed by the advice given by this company and I think their bits are very reasonably priced compared to, say the KK's.

I have both Myler and NS - spent a lot of money originally buying Myler but found that neither the comfort snaffle or mullen mouth worked well - my horses just didn't like the action on the bars of their mouths. Have since moved to NS - tranz logenge baucher and the universal and the difference is incredible - very soft and light in the mouth, and no longer getting tongue over the bit or fussing. Now able to have a consistent contact. Heather at NS was really helpful and spent a long time over the phone making sure I got the right bit for the horse.

Mines in a Myler comfort snaffle, it's the only bit he's ever been truely happy in. Before this he was in a NS Traz lozenge bit & he would lightly head shake it was very weired & bit related.
I do have NS bit's on my Double, however im having problems, hence why im not using the Double.
It's all a bit trail & error with horses, the only way you will know for sure is if you try both NS & Myler.
