I have just bought Chico a Mylers Toklat comfort snaffle with hooks.

I've read up on how the hooks work etc but what every website fails to say is if you use both hook slots at the same time?

In other words, cheek pieces on the top hook and reins on the bottom hook, or can they be used one at a time?

The hooks turn your snaffle in to a gag, no matter how myler try to label it, it s no longer a snaffle. You would always attach cheek piece through top hooks I guess, but can chose to use as a gag with bottom hooks or as a snaffle without. Using cheeks on the top hooks stabilises the bit and gives a similar effect to a hanging cheek

thanks that's really helpful. I didnt necessarily want the ones with hooks but a bargain came on ebay. I thought it looked severe with both hooks attached but using the top hook to stabilise and reins just on the ring sounds ideal. :D

I attach the cheek pieces to top hook and ignore the bottom hook, if that helps.

Exact same reason i ended up with mine, was looking for one without hooks but an Ebay bargain popped up :)
I used both top & bottom slots, but my boy was quite strong & excitable (didnt buy the bit for him originally though).
