My mare developed a bald patch, quite large about the size of a two euro coin, on her forehead (above her right eye) about the end of August. I was away at the time so did not see, but was told by experienced family members watching her that she had not cut herself, just developed a mysterious bald patch.

I wasnt unduely worried, thinking maybe it was a rub and waited for the hair to regrow only it did not. No other similar marks have developed since. It was washed with nizoral and hibi at various times and she has been treated for lice. I have also been applying megatek rebuilder for about a month religiously and altho some strands of hair have regrown, it is still very bald. The skin is smooth and healthy. I cant imagine how she could have damaged any hair follicles if there was no injury yet the hair is not growing back properly!

has anyone experienced anything like this? Im really annoyed about it, being on her head and she being white with black skin it looks really awful:(

May be spring before the hair grows back again. It really depends how far on her winter coat was in August - as it may have just started growing then it may have taken the winter hairs out. Fungal infections often do that and regrowth may not happen until the next coat change.

The winter coat had just started growing. I havent had any experiences of anything like this before, anything else you/anyone could tell me?

She was in a field with electric fencing at the time, left there in October and now back with post and rail. Did the hair grow back for your horse?
