Hi guys,

I've not posted in here for a while but could do with some advice!

Over the past few days I have noticed some blood in my mares tail - not loads, just a few clumps of it. The first time I thought she had just been rubbing her backend on the fences as she sometimes does and had scratched herself, as there was a telltale scratch on her hindquarters. I washed her tail however yesterday there was fresh blood in her tail, maybe a teaspoons worth in total.

I have watched her pooing and couldn't see anything wrong as she seemed fine, have had a look at her bottom etc and nothing is immediately obvious but I'm worried about where the blood is coming from. The blood is not at the same level as her tail - it's a little further down.

I've tried searching for it on here and Google but not really found anything. If I'm going to call the vet out I need to do it soon though before Bank Holiday.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Hi

I don't post very often either but read yours and thought I would because had a similiar thing with our mare a couple of years ago and her bleeding was caused by a varicous vein in her girly bits. Vet wasnt worried said is more common in older mares (ours was 20). It happened again the following spring - and didn't again.

We kept a bit of a diary with pics - just remember though when you are showing off your family pics ! We found it useful because we were able to reassure ourselves it wasn't more than the day before and for how long it went on for

Hope your problem is as easy to resolve !
