I had the vet out to my horse a few weeks ago after he had some heat in both his hind fetlocks but no swelling & was reluntant to take up correct canter leads but was otherwise completely sound!

Vet trotted him up & even lunged him & said it was unusual cause he was completely sound but after the flexion test said it was a fetlock sprain & to give him a weeks boxrest. He even thought it was unusual there was heat & no swelling! After that he redid the test & said it was fine but the heat hasnt completely gone away! Its not as hot but definately warm - he said to bring him back into work slowly & see how it goes - which I'm doing but the heat is bothering me.

He is fine in work, we are only doing walk & trot at the mo & afterwards I'm cold hosing but the heat still isnt going - he seems fine in every other way apart from a reluntance to pick up his right hind like he doesnt want to put weight on his left hind.

Any ideas?? If the heat isnt gone by middle of this week, I'm having my Osteopath come out & check him all over incase something else is out somewhere else! But any ideas about the heat?

have you tried ice, a bag of frozen peas or an ice pack, both work well could be that the hose is not cold enough, he could just have tweaked something or knocked himself can only be minor, however strange that your vet told you to do all that without seeming to completely investigate the cause of the heat. Hope this has helped wish I could tell you more I would be tempted to get a second opinion preferably from a different practice if poss
