So my 6 year old 17hh warmblood mare, who we have been competing successfully in BS competitions has been intermittently going lame on her front left leg for the last 6 weeks.

She will walk/trot in a straight line sound, however on a circle on the left rein she has a mild left leg lameness. Sound on the right rein. We initially put this down to bruised soles and with pads in her shoes, after a few days rest, she came sound. Occasionally, the pads have fallen out of her shoes and she has then gone lame. Again, with pads back in, and a few days rest, sound again. (Sounds like bruised soles right?)

However, in the last week (with pads still securely in feet) she has gone lame, again will trot up in a straight line sound, but on a circle, obviously lame on left limb, left rein.

Vet has been to visit today, has done palmar/plantar digital nerve blocks and after this was still lame in a circle. Vet then thought the lameness was coming from further up the leg. So he blocked her from the knee down, again, still trotted up lame on a circle. X rays taken from knee down - all clear.

The vet the noticed a fairly hardish lump/swelling over her left shoulder joint, with no heat and no obvious tenderness. The vet thinks this may be a shoulder bursitis and could be the source of the lameness. Has anyone had any experience with this? This has been a very frustrating time for us and would love to get back to riding/competing some time!

Thanks!
