My 15 year old Welsh Section D has been lame on and off all summer. She came in from the field lame on her left fore a few months back and as it was the day after she had been shod I got the farrier straight out to look at her. He could find nothing wrong and after resting her for a few days she seemed sound again. Then 2 weeks or so later she went lame again, same leg, again a couple of days and she appeared sound. This has happened on and off all through this summer. There is no heat, no swelling, there were no cuts. Slightly lame mid week but seemed to ride through it and again seemed sound so we took her to show at weekend. Decided to just do one round of jumps as not sure how she would be, although not obviously lame she didn’t look comfortable, kept swishing her tail and tripped a few times, she is normally very sure footed. Has anyone else had a problem similar to this?
 
Hi. We had a similar problem, our 14 year old mare was lame after being shod. No heat or swelling anywhere, got the farrier to check and he couldn't find anything wrong, no abcesses or anything. Looked sound for a week, then went lame again. Had farrier out again and he said it was definitely nothing in the foot. We gave her 4 weeks off, still no improvement. Got the vet out and she went to the vets for a day for nerve blocks and xrays.
She has been diagnosed with degenerative joint disease in both fore coffin joints and pasterns. She had steroid injections into the joints and is now on one bute a day.

I hope your horse is ok, the lameness could be anything! I would get a diagnosis from your vet.
