Hi all, I thought I would sign up to the forum and get some collective thoughts / advice.
My TB mare has been lame since Febuary (5 to 6 /10 ), she has since been rested and had a full lameness workup and Xrays at my usual practice which revealed palmar foot pain.
She was sent to Rossdales 6 weeks ago for an MRI to rule out any major damage or abcess. MRI has revealed nothing! Which in a way is good as there is no major damage. So we have been left with a diagnosis of "Superficial foot pain" and a lameness grade of 2 to 3/10.
My usual practice were reluctant to give pain relief untill my farrier found some nasty looking corns last thursday. He is possibly coming back this weekend to add pads under her shoes as her soles are VERY thin.
So my question really is....has anyone experienced a lameness like this before?
Could my previous farrier have caused some of the problem?
And would you be requesting longer term pain relief to keep her comfortable? ( she is 95% sound on painkillers but I doubt she will ever be 100% sound due to her racing and hunting career)
Any comments or thoughts appreciated.....I'd much rather keep her comfortable than have her PTS ( which is one of the options I face
