mystery swelling...

found tonight on my mare.

its on her offside fore its all swollen from her knee down to her fetlock there is no heat and is only on the inside its just cold any suggestions?

nothing has changed in her routine or diet i have only been hacking out lightly but did some schooling in the field with a couple of small jumps she was booted up and has never had anything like this in the years ive had her??


please help

The start of a splint forming? She could have knocked herself.
Swelling is a sign of inflammation, there doesnt have to be heat as well. Cold hose the leg regularly and have a really good look for any small cuts under the hair as well

i was going to say a splint as well you can buy a splint kit from global herbs!

Bruise? Infection from a small cut hidden under the hair?

Either way, cold hosing will help. If it gets any worse (or is still there after a couple of days), or heat develops, or she becomes lame, call the vet.

have spoken to vet today who advices she has thrown a splint or tendon so is on box rest for a few days with bute and cold hosing and am to ring back if nothing changes.
