A bit of a mystery...
My mare (19) is sound in a straight line, on the left rein on a circle, in all gaits, in all directions, apart from in a circle on the right rein. She's more short and slightly ouchy rather than lame "lame". There is no swelling, heat or lumps and bumps. She's happy to put weight on it when standing and it seems to not bother her at all unless on a circle moving towards the right. Farrier has checked out feet although everyone feels that it is not a foot problem. I have had Gavin do his magic on her and I would say after a week it's much the same. No worse but less "ouchy". I have put her on a course of bute for 5 days to see if anything changes. But today she seems much the same and still no change. She's living out as being on box rest I feel she will stiffen up even more. She's 19 but has had a nice easy life. She's got a mind of a 4 year old and enjoys life to the full! A little too much sometimes!! I have had her since she was an hour old, so i know all of her history. Never had a vet apart from yearly jabs and 2 kicks.
Well the next stage is obviously nerve blocking, x-raying etc... but I really would like some other advice from anyone who has experienced anything like this with their horses? Any help/advice much appreciated..

To be honest it sounds like there may be a touch of arthritis setting in somewhere. At 19 she has done very well to have remained ' sound' for all thease years. If you are really that worried then your best bet would be to get a vet to look at her.

i have had a similar lameness and there had been an injury to the ligaments around the foot - something a farrier would never know about. i was lucky and had it diagnosed quickly so a really good dose of box rest fixed the horse, but the vet did warn me that if i hadn't given the rest so early on, she may well not have ever fixed up very well at all.
