Looking for something to add to pony's current feed to help him utilise his energy and give him a bit more 'oomph'.

Would either EnerG or Soya oil do the job? Or is there something else I could try?

Prefer an oil or something similar rather than a mix/balancer and having to change his feed completely.

He is currently fed Topchop Lite & Topspec Lite Balancer.

All help and advice appreciated :)

ETA: I know many people have suggested Alfa A or a chaff & oil mix and once I get through the topchop bag I am happy to buy a bag if people think that works better.

I've been giving my pony EnerG for a while now and think it has given him more oomph as he definitly seemed a lot better in our lessons just after I started him on it and has improved in his flatwork a lot since as seems to have more about him.

Though not entirely sure if that's due to the EnerG or something else. May try him on Soya oil never heard of using it for ooomph before.

I have just started using Soya oil for my gelding as he was lacking in ooomph. It seems to have done the trick with him.

Glad to hear it's doing the trick. Will definitely think of trying it.

Hmm interesting! Seems like both do the job! I'm really not sure which one to try now.... ;)

Soya Oil is good for slow release energy, but needs to be introduced slowly so the horse can adjust to using the oil for energy :)

AliceFlapjack; is your horse a good doer? I rand Top Spec recently regarding oomph for my Welsh Cob, they recommended increasing the fibre intake rather than starchy mixes of cereals. So I swapped from HiFi Good Doer and Top Spec Antilami to AlfaA Lite and the comprehensive balancer.

To be honest I haven't been feeding the new regime long enough to decide if it makes a difference yet though. Oh and I feed both Soya Oil & Naf EnerG...certainly haven't seen any difference since introducing the EnerG

Yes he is a good doer but I have problems getting him to put the fat in the right places! He loves building up his crest but nothing else!

I'm having a meeting with D&H nutritional team at the beginning of October and might ring some other companies in the mean time.

Thank you :) xx

Hehe...yeah know the feeling!! Talking to feed companies is a really good idea though, when I spoke with Top Spec they were very quick to recommend feed other than their own if they might help...they offer free advice you might as well use it :D

i have used the EnerG for a slightly different reason, my lad was poorly so we gave it to his as it was a high vitamin b solution. he had nearly a month off and was on 60ml (competition horse level) and it sent him bonkers (this is the horse who is so sane its untrue) but he was on alot of food and had no work for 4 weeks.
