So I have just purchased a tub of NAF Magic for my youngster, he is very anxious, nervous and spooky. He get's stressed really easily and when he does he is stressed for literally about an hour, he struggles to calm back down.
Also at competitions I have difficultly keeping him focused and on the task, we compete in Dressage so his concentration is really important.

So does anyone else use NAF Magic, do you recommend it?

Your youngster sounds a bit like mine.

She is a 6yr old RID and is a real worrier. She finds it hard to focus and her reactions are always 'bigger' than necessary for the situation! I am now on my second tub of NAF Magic and really think it has helped me girl. She is calmer and generally less anxious, making it easier to handle her and her ridden work has come on in leaps and bounds (minus the leaps and bounds lol!!)

I also think the customer service from NAF is excellent....my mare decided she didn't like the taste of the second tub....I contacted them and they came up with loads of useful tips and hints and even sent me some free mint to help disguise it!

The one thing I will say, from other people's experiences on here, is that calming supplements are trial and error....what works for one, doesn't necessary work for another. i think it has something to do with the ingredients and what your horse is lacking in his diet.

Ah that's fab! :D

Yeah my boy doesn't like the taste however I have masked it with a bit of soaked Lucie Bricks by Simple Systems, I think that I might contact NAF and tell them haha! ;)
I'm glad to know that it has worked well with your mare, I just hope that it will help to focus and chill out my boy too!! :D

I tried several calmers on my boy, some worked a teensy weensy bit but nothing particularly impressive. Now have him on pure magnesium, cheap as chips and results have been quite dramatic. Still lively and gets frightened of things, but it seems to be more genuine fear rather than "trying it on". He is doing far better now and concentrating on his work. Shows dont really phase him at all any more, even his first time indoors the other week.

Most calmers are magnesium based anyway

I tried it. It helped but not cured my gelding.
I then changed him onto pure feeds, no supplements.
Amazing difference, healthy looking, concentration is great.

Definitely a winner.
So easy to feed too!

I put my boy on magic but I was using the liquid. He was getting very anxious after several moves and it was amazing. I had tried several others before but naf magic I really noticed a difference. Hope ur boy settles soon.

When we bought Soph she was on NAF Magic...I think we bought one more tub of it but one day thought 'bugger it this is expensive' and never bought another tub. No change in her what.so.ever. :D

Must admit I am not a fan of calmers, but I have found this one make a difference. Stressy Tb was on it two days, and I found him a lot more settled. The horse may of had gastric ulcers in the past so the digestive aid in it puts my mind at rest. I have had him 3 weeks today, and from being 'unrideable' (apprarently- I never had any problems!), to letting me sit on him when he was sleeping in the field (naughty I know, but he was so chilled).
I think a lot of problems with calmers is that people expect too much form them, they are not substitute to correct handling, schooling, and suitable routine for the horse (which I think often is the reason for a stessy horse!).

Another vote for the liquid.
My boy gets very stressed when I move yards and had to do so recently. He was very on edge and crying for other horses if they went out of sight but since being on Magic, he's sooo chilled now.

It's good to hear so many positive stories, I just need it to help my boy concentrate at shows and to (hopefully!) speed up his calming down process! It's a real pain when he gets stressed on the way to the competition and then when we get there he is all stressy and snorty haha!
Not a good look for dressage ;)

YOu can double dose them for shows, I started using it specifically for the same reason as you. It didn't stop him being on his toes but it stopped the stupidness.
