I emailed Naf about the DEET reactions, purely because I thought they should look into it - they would like people whose horses have reacted to it to contact them so they can investigate further - I am sending them my part finished bottle so they can check there is nothing wrong with the batch etc.

Could people please contact them to let them know as they are keen to check all is well. If you would like to see a copy of their email to me please PM and I will forward it to you. (Also in SY for exposure!) Thank you!

There was a post in SY last week about it. Basically, its been taking the top layer of skin off.
SC one of mine has now gone like yours on his neck, previously he had just reacted up high on his back legs but now he's losing skin on his neck where he has plenty of hair

And I havent put any fly spray on for over a week

I'll email them if you PM me the details

Coedcae I have Pmd you. Everyone else, I'm not trying to scaremonger, I'm sure your horses will be fine! Naf products are really good, it's only this one I've had a problem with, I wondered if it was the batch so am sending the bottle back. Like I say, I usually really like Naf products, and anything will have a small proportion of horses which reacts badly to it I would assume.

NEVER EVER apply DEET to skin / hair then put rugs / lothing on top of the area! Don't know if you have done that hence a reaction but just a thought.

DEET is the most widely used pesticide in topical insect repellants worldwide as it is so effective against mosquitos, ticks, and other insects that carry disease (malaria, West Nile Virus, etc). However it is a known solvent on synthetic fabrics, rayon, some plastics, varnish, painted surfaces (so think what it may do to skin!).
