i struggle keeping weight on my horse and i feed him LOADS ! someone suggested pink powder to help him digest it better does it work ??? or anyone other ideas ? getting desperate...he doesnt look really thin but just not quite as plump as id like ! spending a fortune on food ! hes a 16 h narrow warmblood and hes now 7 ! hunts and events !

Yes, PP does work. I feed it all the time to my TB and she looks really well on it. We also had an irish mare here who dropped weight in the late Autumn I put her on this together with No. 4 cubes and she picked up within a week. Its good stiff.

i've just started giving this to my 12yr old ISH that lost a bit of weight over the winter. It's only been two weeks but this and changing his Horsehage from blue to green seems to be doing the trick. His coat looks shiny (despite living out 24/7) and i can only feel ribs but not see them. I'm quite pleased with the initial improvement.

Yes Pink powder should help. Also if wanting to put weight on fairly cheaply full fat soya works well and brings out nice shiny coat.

Nutritional support of the gut is the cornerstone of health and vitality in horses, and will be reflected as a horse in perfect condition. Pink Powder is the concentrated feed balancer with live probiotic yeast for perfect condition.

It is a concentrated feed balancer containing naturally occuring yeasts and probiotics, essential for the maintenance of correct gut function. Feed whenever the natural microbial balance of the gut is likely to be disrupted. Ideal for horses prone to anxiety, weight loss or loss of appetite.

I feed it to my horse who was prone to spasmodic colic and its worked very well with him. He looks in good condition and has a shiny coat, good feet and no more colic episodes!

I have just started my Mare on this.
Sounds similar to your case.

Mine worry's it off - Extra helpful!
But seriously I did find it helpful to ring around the feed companies - You might find a swap in feed makes a huge difference!

Going well so far.
Also do keep in mind Dr Green is coming!!! :D

I have a sec a with Cushings and a very delicate stomach due to sugar intolerance. I moved her onto pink powders a few weeks ago instead of low cal balancer and probiotics. She is now bright eyed and more bouncy than ever before, and its cheaper!

There is something quite special about it. I used to feed it to my old shettie with great effect. I stopped buying it when he died, but this winter I wasn't happy with my exmoor's weight (who is now showing signs of age). Well, he's like a bleedin rocket again and he looks VERY well. This time last year I wasn't happy at all with his weight (he drops weight between Feb and April), but I'm glad I bought some more of the PP. He's also shedding his coat normally - something he didn't do last year, when he wasn't on PP.

hi, i use dengie digestive health, same thing as pp,have used it since it came on market,24pounds for three months supply so really cost effective, would highly recommend it.

ok il give it a go ! everyone seems to give advice and its hard to know what to try as money is limited !!! hes been on (large scoop) 1 alpha a oil 1/2 oats 1/2 barley 1 sugarbeet - twice a day, ad lib hay, but he doesnt eat much and i soak him alphalpha nuts and mix it with alpha oil and leave in stable overnight......have tried conditioning cubes, competition mix, pasture mix, haylage and alphabeet ??

i have a 25 year old 14.2 section D who i have really struggled to put weight on this winter, i have been feeding her PP since she dropped weight during the really cold weather, her coat is nice and shiny but to be honest im not sure it has really made much difference to weight gain.
She is fed pretty much ad lib hay, 1 scoop hi-fi original, 1 scoop 16+ 1 scoop sugar beet and a slug of veg oil 2 x daily, i think the shiny coat has probably come from the veg oil and hard feed!
she has had this for the last few months, she had the pink powder for around 3-4 weeks without any real improvement in weight gain, i suspect the sugar beet may have helped the little bit of gain she has managed, i have just finished the PP and would love to hear more of other peoples experiences to be persuaded fully either way

Gosh I think once someone on here said about milk something or other or barley rings...

I cant remember exactly but worth putting this in Stable Yard maybe?

Personally, as someone who struggled FOR YEARS (!!!) to keep weight on a 17.3 non foodie... (and tried EVERY "fattening" food possible...)

What I found worked for him was to cut out the cereal based foods. Cut out sugar. Keep to a fibre based diet. Cereals can be difficult to digest. If your horse is a little bit of a worrier (or any excuse for a hoon...) it can help to even out behaviour. That is not to say that you will necessarily lose out on energy btw... :)

He is now on Top Chop (no molasses) , Fibregest / Allen and Page Fast Fibre. I recently put him on Equijewel as well (Well at 28....)

He also has Pink Powder, just to ensure that the gut is functioning to optimal stds.

He has maintained his weight and is still full of life and naughtiness. :D
