Not sure that it made a huge difference for me, most help has been cashel full riding mask, equilibrium nose net and a loose noseband, cheaper too! Hope you find something that works

ooo, really? How do you smear it on, just sort of inside the nostrils, not too far in....?

I take a big fingerfull and yes smear it all inside the nostrils to give a thin film, i go in as far as i can see and a little around them. I also do the lips too if they are dry! You have to watch if it's very hot as I guess it could burn in the sun, not really a problem in Scotland though.
