5 weeks ago my 12yr 17.2 wb novice eventer trod on a screw out hacking and it went through his deep flexor tendon, navicular bursa, coffin joint and laminae, infecting all the above and damaging the tendon. He had an op to flush out the infection and 2 weeks at the vets to check it was healing well. Hes now had 3 weeks at home with a farrier plate on and has a further 3 to go. Check up last week seems to be healing ok and vets positive. He is off antibiotics and bute from last week and is more or less sound in walk now.

Prognosis was fair to return to work and eventing is dependant on damage done to the joint/ tendon.

Looking for a tendon/ joint supplement to help aid recovery.

Can anyone recommend any ie. NAF Superflex/ Global Herbs Movefreeplus/ Tendoneze/ Cortaflex good or bad reviews?

Any help or ideas much appreciated :)

I was recommended Riaflex by my physio - best spec-price ratio compared to Sperflex etc - after sacroiliac and hind supsensory problems. Have had my horse on it for a couple of weeks now and either it is coincidence or it's having a very positive effect as he is suddenly full of beans again and feels great under saddle, suddenly bouncing along again.

(If you're looking for the same ingredients as Superflex etc then it seems to be one of the most economical options, partly as they do very little if any advertising so you're not paying for marketing!)

Hi there,
Ive come across your question about your eventer standing on a screw, as the exact same thing has just happened to my event pony! The only difference is that he stood on a farriers nail.
I'm looking into supplements too as he 's just had his surgery but I'd really appreciate having a chat with you about your experience and to see how he is - it's just been such a scary and upsetting week and it would really help to talk to someone else who's been through it?
Many thanks
Zoe

Had great results with NAF Superflex. We really recommend all of their products. The Superflex especially works brilliantly with my two ponies of which I show jump and event with.
Best of luck with your horses recovery x
