Nail Clipping and Ear Plucking!

Ok, I am now going to be clipping Beastie myself (much to her horror)

Her ears and nails were normally done by the groomer so I'll need to do them myself.

Ok so nails first, I need to buy a pair of proper nail clippers, where is best to get them? Beasties nails are black so how far do I take off?

With her ears, I can pluck a few hairs at a time, but it's a long, slow process which annoys her so anyway to make it easier?

I'll leave anal glands for the vets

I clip Millies nails myself but Zak is frantic and it takes two to pin him down.... so leave those for the vet!!!

Zaks ears are not that hairy so dont get done very much.... he has had two surgeries and they have been cleared both times.... Millie, again I try to do myself to get her used to it... but she screams

I know it must be a bit uncomfortable, but she is a bit OTT!!!

Mikki do some good nail clippers, either the shear type ones or the ones like scissors (I like the latter...) and just nibble a bit off of the ends of the nails... slowly does it or you could hit the quick

Ears.... you can get some stuff called Thornit powder (not sure where from tho) and this loosens the hairs and makes them easier to grip

Best of luck... this is the one and only time Zak has bitten, when having his ears plucked!!!

Maybe buy a little muzzle if you are not sure... you can bet the groomer has one

Beasties ears get very furry

She has been knocked out before and had them totally cleared out. Poor womans.

Must look up that powder and nail clippers, thank you

I love my Wahl clippers

They are fab just flew over her coat! Legs were difficult due to matts so I scissored most of them then clipped the rest. She was horrified. She looks silly now, but it'll grow back and it's keeping her cool

I have mikki nail clippers like gilloteen (sp?!) sort of ones, where its a ring, put nail in, then a blade slices off the piece thats in it.

Beau also has black nails so as said above, just little bits gradually up until its the same length as the edges of his paw normally...... (so where skin of pad hits the ground, should be approx length of nail) but remember the quick is there! she wont bleed out but it hurts like a bu**er

No idea about ears, didnt know you plucked them tbh!!
