Hi everyone

my boy is lame when trotted on concrete, but sound when trotted on a soft surface
there is alot of heat in the foot
the farrier came and took the shoe off, and dug around, cant find anything, but he's very very sore, and reacting violently
very sore even when i touch the foot with my fingers
he was shod on tuesday so thought it might be nail bind, but when the farrier was originally putting the shoe on he was uncomfortable, i thought nothing of it, but maybe there was pain there
i was going to tub it, but as soon as the hot water came near the foot he freaked

im thinking abscess? but im not sure, and now im worrying...a
any help please

Certainly sound more like pus in the foot! I would poultice for a couple of days to see what is brewing. You don't have to use hot water if he can't tolerate it, just use warm water on the animalintex without washing the hoof with hot water first. I woke up this morning to exactly the same thing but when my OH took his shoe off (only shod on Monday) he has a huge bruise under the seated part of the hoof. Once the shoe came off he was less hobbily. Good luck oh and don't use antibiotics or too much bute (if you were going to give him Bute) as it will only mask over it so you won't really get to the bottom of the problem should it not be pus in foot.

I've got the same problem but mine was shod last week and has been lame in trot but sound in walk since then. Farrier back out tomorrow to take shoe off and have a look. Fingers crossed,
