My cob was shod last thurs and I rode him straight after and was obviously lame, not badly possibly 3/10th's in trot and felt ok in walk but not as forward going as normal.
Fortunately my farrier was still in the area so popped back to have a look - his view was that he had possibly shod him a little tight in front with a possibility of a minor nail prick. He removed the shoe and re-positioned the clenches.
I turned my cob out and he didn't look too bad in the field so rode on Friday morning and felt pretty much sound. He was also ridden on sunday and felt fine.
Due to work I haven't had a chance to ride until today and went for a 1 hr hack - he felt fine in a straight line and cheerful into canter etc, but a couple of times I felt he was not 'quite right' on a turn, so popped him on the lunge on our return and he looked very slightly lame still, possibly no more than around 1/10 lame.
I have spoken to my farrier and he feels it is still related to the shoe, and said he should come right with little intervention and no need to remove the shoe again, with his theory that if he had an infection her would be getting lamer, not sounder.
Does this sound right to you guys and is it possible for him to still be uncomfortable 6 days on since shoeing?
The reason I am in a quandry is that he is entered for a fun ride on sunday and have only 2 days left to cancel and get a refund - if it was just me I wouldn't mind losing the money, but also involves my partner and a friend who is joining us and don't want them losing their entries too.
Thanks for any input!
