What a load of bilge being spouted on NR.
My farrier is brilliant and he's a helluva lot cheaper than my hairdresser!

What a prat!

The thing is, people always forget that, out of the money their farrier charges, he/she doesn't only have to buy the shoes and nails, but also
-replace other equipment like rasps and knives etc regularly
-pay his apprentice (if he's got one)
-pay tax and National insurance
-buy, insure, tax, service, MOT and fuel his van
-pay public liability insurance (I think?), in case he gets sued
-pay accident/loss of earnings insurance, in case someone's ill mannered brat of a horse injures him and he can't work
-pay his rent or mortgage
-pay his utility bills
-buy food
-in the case of fitting glue-ons, he also has to buy the expensive adhesive and special tools to fit them

I'm sure I've forgotten some things, but when you think about all that, paying 70 quid for a set of shoes doesn't seem all that much to me

More like a lot of hard work, for a distinctly average living

And no, I'm not a farrier or a farrier's girlfriend, I just took my time to really think about where the money I give my farrier goes, and I'm very happy to pay what he charges for his time and expertise.

Ok, so she bought some 'specialist' shoes in the States that were too small for her horse and crippled him, horse was under Vet's care at the time... and it's her farrier's fault? What about her OWN responsibility and that of vet?
That said, perhaps farrier shouldn't have put the things on if they were too small, but we only have her word for the fact that she's a complete *rse who didn't bother to measure/draw round her horse's feet...
My head hurts from reading such stupidity.

This is why I cannot abide New Rider forum. I swear they have far more than the 'normal' share of deluded lunatics on there. I would be banned within minutes as i could not hold my tongue!

Can I go slap that person? Please? Please please?

Thing is, NR is full of teenagers who don't know any better, and they are being led and fed by others of the same mind set. Some things I read on there are totally mind boggling

*sigh*

Out of the money we charge comes... tools, shoes, nails, gas, diesel, vehicle costs, tyres, insurance for vehicle, public liabilty, accident insurance, accountants fees, tax, NI, physio, cell phone, bank charges, specialist tools/shoes, further training and education, pension, stationary, registration fees... i could go on and this is before our own living expenses of course.

*bigger sigh*
