Nails - DIY, groomer, vet?

I never trim any of ours. Dewclaws all fine too. Brandy’s dewclaws are a bit long now but not bothering her. I do have to trim her nails now that she doesn’t walk. That’s a new thing and nothing I’ve ever had to do with a young dog.

I've always done DIY, I was shown as a kid and its part and parcel of our puppy training the 'vet check' which is eyes, ears, gums/ teeth and feet which are all handled and played with so its never an issue when the vet checks them.

I used to do my sisters rabbits teeth as well, he had terrible teeth (assuming inbred dwarf genetics didnt help!) as a teenager I watched the vet do it once or twice and thought, thats easy enough!

I like the Millers Forge ones because they are sharp and you get less of the initial ‘squeeze’ that some dogs object to. They are also good at taking off small shavings of nail.

@scats do you have a recommendation for where to buy these? I had a look on Amazon and the reviews suggested there are fake ones being sold so just wondered if you have a retailer you like to get your grooming kit from. I bought a Mikki pair and they're okay but don't seem great for slicing off the thin shavings.

Progress has been made and I'm pleased to be trying to learn to DIY to keep on top of them. Otherwise it seemed they would just end up always being on the cusp of too long before getting to the length the vet would be happy to trim them. A couple of them seem to turn in a bit and I do wonder what this does to her toes/feet as she walks along.

We had one catch of the quick - must have only just got it as just a drop of blood. She didn't react too much and seems to have forgiven me. Styptic powder has been ordered.
