Hi
I am away on holiday to the moray firth area in a couple of weeks and was hoping to spoil myself with some extra riding whilst I'm there. Can anyone recommend a
one (or two) good equestrian centres. I'd like to do a bit of trekking with partner (he's a fairly novice rider) plus also I'd love a dressage lesson on a fairly decent schoolmaster. Failing that a decent SJ or XC lesson would also be good. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
Many many thanks

Depending where you are staying?

There is a riding school just outside drumnadrochit (about 20 miles west of inverness)which is on the shores of loch ness, they have lovely hacking, indoor school and outside arena which is useful with the scottish weather. I learned there many moons ago and its got a good reputation.

Im sure there is a riding school in nairn, but for the life of me i cant remeber, will put my thinking hat on and there is a few in the black isle. Best check out the BHS Scotland website for recommended riding schools.

Not at all being biased but drumnadrochit is very bonnie you and your OH could go for lunch, then head round urquhart castle it be a good day out

Im not saying anything negative but burgie riding centre is not linked to the eventing centre its run by different people and from what i have seen its really just a kids/happy hacking establishment.

Another place ive thought of is gleneagles equestrain centre, quite pricey but i think it be the only place that fits your bill might be worth checking their website!

Hi!!

I second Borlum Farm in Drumnadrochit!! Lovely horses, good lessons and hacks www.borlum.co.uk if you wanted something a bit different/more exciting, (although I don't know if your partners bum could handle it) try Candy Camerons place in Dores (just outside Inverness). She offers brilliant endurance rides on the hills above Loch Ness www.lochnessriding.co.uk. There is some excellent riding around that area. I'm from the west coast and always love riding over Inverness way because they have beaches, hills and forests on their doorstep wow!!

If you want a bit of nice happy hacking on safe horses who know thier job in nice countryside, go to Cranloch. It'd be great for you and your husband to go out riding together.

Apparently Beaumont just outside Lossie is good for lessons on non-riding school plods.

I've ridden out from Candy Cameron's place at Dores and it was lovely. It was 16 years ago but the horses then were nice. Also Borulm Farm which other people have linked to have great hacks in similar terrain- hills high above loch Ness and you can get down to the water for a dip too

I'd try either of those

I learnt to ride with the people that moved to Seaforth Riding Centre- they were based somewhere else before... not sure what they are like now but the details are
Seaforth Riding Centre, Dunglass Farm, Maryburgh, By Dingwall, Ross-Shire, IV7 8EG Tel: 01349 865495 Fax: 01349 877566

Again this was 20 years ago so no idea who the staff are now and they are a little out of the area you mentioned
