naked hooves- improvements?

my new boy had very 'high' hooves when i first got him...
he had been shod all around for 10years since the age of 3 and kept in the stable unless he was working. (in holland)
the last 3 years he has been having turnout and his hind shoes taken off
he is fed graze on chop and NAF general suppliment
these are the hooves 2 months now after the shoes have come off.

ive actually got 3 others too barefoot. they all had a period of time 8 months ago on far too much grass and out for only 4 hrs per day (full livery, they were meant to be wearing muzzles..............)

and 7 year old- had a nasty injury to a fore when she took a chunk of frog and heel off on tin as a yearling before i got her. had shoes the fronts on from yearling until 5yrs old

hinds- had shoes on for very short periods of time

and 23year old. shod all around from 4-9 years old, then barefoot since.
has had laminitis once when she was 18.

i was thinking about feeding a hoof suppliment for them... is 'pro hoof' the one by NAF?

the 5 yr old and 23yr old go over any ground fine
the 7 yr old will be very careful over stones. smooth hard ground is fine but she really can feel stones sometimes.
the big chap was quite sensitive at first but now we have left the hoof quite 'tall' and dont touch the frog or sole he is quite happy. i still put hoof boots on for our drive tho as its hard ground with really big stones on.

Wow, lots of pictures! Must have taken ages to take all of those! I'm afraid I'm definitely no expert but am interested due to the fact that my horse has just gone to Rockley for rehab following diagnosis of navicular, collateral ligament damage and pedal osteitis. I've heard of the pro hoof and think it is made by NAF, but I'm afraid I don't know anymore about it than that. I would have thought that some of the Barefoot Taliban will be along soon to answer your questions though.

Those look like awesome naked hooves! I can see the injury being compensated on your 7yo. Yes, the BF would probs recommend prohoof but would probably be best to analyse your forage. This is most cost effective in the long run. Thanks for sharing those photos.

yes it was quite a severe injury, they were thinking about PTS... she wore a surgical plate for about 8 months......

Barefoot hooves look fabulous, mine have been barefoot for two years but dont look as good. My youngster has never been shod. I am hoping once he start more hacking work they will improve.

wow i am really pleased people say they look ok
although ive had shoeless horses for a long time, i would definately not call myself a barefoot person knowledge wise... ive always tried to keep their diet as simple and high fibre as possible and give them as much time out the stable as possible too

also is graze on an ok feed to put their general suppliment in? they only get a handful.
