For those of you following the 'Should I have said no?' thread, I can now reveal the name of the illustrious endurance mare all the fuss was about, who is booked to my stallion Tobago for 2008.

Hattie guessed right the second time - it is Sharifah ! Winner of a major International Championship in Holland, flag-bearer for the British Team at the European Championships in Portugal (and first Team horse home), personally invitited to compete at the Presidents Cup in Abu Dhabi, top contender for the next World Championships...

Her career will not be interrupted too much, though, as this will be an ET foal

- Sharifah and her recipient mare are coming to Twemlows specially to be there at the same time as Tobago, so it will all be done by the ET experts there.

This makes sense, as Sharifah is kind of the endurance equivalent of Headley Britannia - or something pretty damn close to this. Which sort of explains why I am so immensely chuffed that her owner has chosen my little boy to be the sire of her first foal!

Anyway - now that (thanks to you lot) I have got over my little moral wobble about this mare, I am just very happy and excited, especially as this will be Tobago's first ET foal!

Are you shipping semen to North America yet? I have passed on Tobago's details to a few Arab breeders over here but wasn't sure whether you are set up for this yet.

Thanks everyone - I really am going to follow your advice from now on and stop fretting about everything - give my conscience a little bit of a rest!

Got a feeling this announcement might create a bit of a stir among Arab/endurance people, though - imagine if Headley Britannia had been bred to an unbacked 4yo 'show' stallion....

Tia thank you so much for telling your US friends about my boy 'going global' - that is really very kind of you. (If they want a bit more info, there is an editorial/feature piece about him in the December issue of the US/international mag Arabian Horse World - or they can contact me of course!)

Tobago is off to Twemlows on the 14th of January, but because of quarantine times, etc., the worldwide frozen semen won't be available until the end of February.

Apologies for this slight delay - but I think this will be early enough for most US breeders (any earlier and you risk having a foal born in December)! I hope it's OK for them anyway; sorry if anyone is inconvenienced.

I'm so excited about the ET thing as well - has anyone on here done an ET breeding? I know the mares are in v good hands at Twemlows, and the owner had told me they are both already cycling and already 'synchronised', so I've nothing to worry about - but I'd love to hear about your experiences.

Oh it's normal over here for people to start looking to breed around April/May time ....rarely any earlier. I have only passed on info, no guarantees, but I did get some feedback a month or so ago and one person really liked what they were looking at! How could he not though.
