caoimhe (qwee-va) graceful, gentle beauty )
aine (awn-na)

want any help pronouncing irish names i can try to make it simpler if it helps!

I used to have a female cat called Guinness. She was black with a bit of white.
I like the Black Velvet idea and at least it's linked to the passport name. It would suit her, she is lovely.
Did Marzipan go to York for her day out?

LOL, York is the best day out, just shouldn't take any money (or bank cards)! Will she be residing at Hope Pastures whilst livery is sorted, that is always a problem buying on a whim unless you have your own land? I think she looks like a Molly although I like Guinness!

I knew a mare called Guinness a few years ago, and she looked really similar!!
If you're going for an irish type name, I like Niamh (pronounced neeve, and means bright or radient), my friend's daughter is called that and I think it's lovely :)

Irish names are fine in Ireland but can be a nightmare to pronounce here. I have two Irish mares which I bought in Ireland then moved over here. They are called Breagh and Fainne (pronounced bree-a and forn-ya) everyone pronounces them differently and thank god they are stable names I dread to think what they'd get called at shows if I didn't get a chance to correct them.
It is nice (and sometimes very funny) having original names though so if I were you I'd be tempted to pick an unusual Irish name off the long list supplied.
Good luck with new horse :0)

Yu want to try having a horse called Zonneschijn - we get some really odd pronounciation at times

It's Dutch for Sunshine

:)

Yes it was York and I will never ever be taking my card or money again. I blame Sophie.

She is there at the moment but I had a stable reserved at a yard (near you!) that I already had for another mare that kind of fell through. Its not free yet but will be in a week or so and she has somewhere to go in the meantime.

Maybe I should keep it as Guinness but I just thought she needed something a bit more girly. The dealer told me she was called Dolly...don't think he knew, but I already know a Dolly.

I didn't mean to buy her and I am not an impulsive person in the slightest, too sensible really but something felt right about her.

There are some lovely suggestions. I have told her she has until tomorrow to choose, I hate calling the lovely girl "it"

No Heather, she cant live at Hope Pastures, they are full, she is finding some grazing for a fortnight until a space comes up on the yard near you. Why do you have room for another one :D :D

Thought you would have enough with your current lodger :):) How is he doing

I love Caoimhe but can imagine so many people pronouncing it wrong.

I am starting to think Black Velvet may be her name, as you all say, at least its linked to her passport name.

Niamh is lovely, I've always loved that name. :)

I originally suggested Black Velvet as it could be used as a show name and linked to her passport name, and she could be just Velvet on the yard. I think if you look at her for long enough her name will come to you..... I know that sounds a bit 'out there' but it has worked for me..........;)
