Looking for some inspiration. I am a terrible terrible Mum and despite having my new boy for 2 months I still have not got a name for him.....he is a 5 year old 17'1hh Dutch Warmblood and is dark Bay/Black with a squidgy white blaze. He is lovely and has an amazing temprement but is a bit cheeky under saddle and a typical youngster but very genuine esp when jumping. Basically he is a big sexy giant. Any names really really gratefully received..... ps I just call him Donkey at the moment....!

What is his registered name? or hasn't he got one yet?

Call him Harry!

Right, his passport name is Voxx which is what they used to call him but I really just can't bring myself to use it....

He is a dutch warmblood by Lennard and his dam is ex Volataire. I have lots of photos but only ones from when I went to try him on my work computer - going to try and work out how to attach these so you can see!

what about Pantalaimon from Philip Pulmans His Dark Materials? I have always wanted to call an animal after many of the characters in these books. I think they are really good names. Then you could call him Pan for short...

Like the quote Nossie!

Some very good names - I wanted Max or Monty before but there are already horses by that name at the yard and people get stressy....

Really appreciate all your help so thanks again and keep coming if you think of any more!

Minky moo I reckon you are a fan of fiction! I like the idea of a mysterious name (was going through Star Wars and Lord of the Rings trying to get something cool) but needs to be somethng also that you don't burn red with shame at shouting out at the top of the field

Weirdly I was talking to a non-horsey friend on our way back from lunch today and he asked me what do you do if you buy a horse and you don't like it's name? I thought he meant as in is it unlucky to change its name (i don't know - is it?) but he said what if it is called Tampon or something and you have to shout it across the field or someone asks if you are jumping Tampon tonight!! I nearly wet myself laughing!!

You're right, I am a massive fiction reader, but I think it is nice to have an unusual name.

(and I am not suggesting for a second that you call him Tampon!!!)
