My horse has a passport with name given by stud but I compete him BE under a different name - at the event on sunday the passport was checked and I was told passport should have his competition name. Is this right and what happens if you compete BSJA cos itsquite possible you will need to compete under a different name ..

If you have changed his name or given him a new competing name then you should get this updated/added on his passport. I think if you register this under BE you should be able to register him BSJA under the same name.

My sister had this with her horse, we have not changed his passport as yet although the passport issuer has said they will do it for free. As a temporary measure you can get your vet to verify the horse is one and the same as on the passport and pop this note in your passport. This is what I did for my sisters (vet did not charge as knows us well) as BE advised this was acceptable and we took it to an event this weekend where the organisers were most impressed someone had actually done it!

The stamp in the passport from the BE or BSJA should say the registered name and therefore doesnt need to be the same as whats on the front of the passport, for example, my horse is called Boston Whitesocks but we couldnt get that name BSJA so his registered name is Kingsbury stars and stripes, yet with the BSPA and CHAPS hes registered as Boston Whitesocks. You cant have a passport for every discipline you do!!

When i went to HOYS for showing, my boy had his H.I.S. passport with his jabs in with one name and his J.M.B. passport with the name he was competing in and the vet inspector said as he was freezemarked it wasnt a problem to establish it was the same horse.
