My friend has bought a 5 month old filly, who is still on her mum at the breeders yard, will be weaned at 6 months, and then my friend is bringing her home! :) The filly hasn't got a name yet, have you got any suggestions please? :confused:

The filly is half and half, a TB x Percheron. She is bay with a small star. She will be a big girl.

I don't know if this link will work, but this is a photo of her.. http://www.facebook.com/?sk=message...4012.64973.597134012&pid=4965103&id=597134012

I was thinking about something french, to relate to her french breeding, but I cannot speak french! So would welcome any suggestions! xx :)

Belle - beautiful. Puissance - power. Or if you want a French name rather than a French word there's lots to suit a mare: Rochelle, Chantalle. Monique, Sophie, Adrianne, Agathe (pronounced A-gat), Amélie, Céline, Florence (Flora), Genevieve, Océane, Penélope... the list goes on!

Percheron's are a favourite breed of mine: she's such a little looker already!

Flora!!!!!1 That's so sweet!!!! That would suit her, big, kind, dopey flora :D

She's so pretty, going to be gorgeous lady!

There's some fantastic suggestions, thanks guys! :)

Pip6, I really like Ombre du Luna, that's nice. Thanks for the link LoopyLoo, I saw 'Fleur' on there which is of no great meaning (flower), but I like it! :)

EdensideEnthusiast, my friend thought of 'Belle', but we know a few already called this. I like Amélie. The fillys mother has got a temperment to die for. Such a gentle giant with the kindest eye. I can't wait for my friend to get the filly, and watch her grow. I hope she takes after her mum!

SusannaF, I quite like La Rousse! Ahaaa, a french dictionery I hear you say, hmmm, well, what about along the lines of: dream, vision, chance, luck, hope, faith, future? I haven't a clue if these will be 'nice sounding' names in french, but this is what the new filly will be to my friend. She has high hopes for her, she is her dream horse! xx

Faye = Fairy
Alixandra = Defender of Mankind
Roial = Regal
Devan = Devine
Didier = Desired
Maurelle = Dark and Elfin
Maud = Strong war
Floressa = Flower
Darcy = Dark
Carina = Pure
Rousse = Red Haired
Amite = Friend
Patrice = Noble
Estee = Star

Could combine some of these for a show name: Patrice Amite (noble friend) or Darcy Estee (dark star).

Happy naming :)

dream = le rêve and la Rêveuse = the dreamer
vision = la vision
chance = hasard or chance. "coup de chance" = by sheer luck
luck = la chance, bonheur = good luck or happiness (and Rosa Bonheur was a painter who did beautiful pictures of draft horses, inc percherons, BTW)
hope = l'espoir. l'ésperance (last is feminine)
faith = La Foi or La Confiance.
future = l'avenir

Thanks for your suggestions Witchy, I quite like 'Estee'. Me too ThoroughbredStar, the more I think of it, the more I love 'Fleur'.

SusannaF, thank you so much for that. I quite like the name 'Rosa', it would have such great meaning. That painting is breath taking! Love it! xx

TBStar - love the suggestion Fleur! Had a gorgeous grey ISH at my first stables when I was about 7yrs old. I never knew before Fleur that a creature could be that big, that beautiful, or jump so high!
