Name this sapling

I know there’s a glut of sycamore saplings atm but I’ve got these in my field.
We have a lot of oak trees on the border but not sure if they’re oak or otherwise.
Any ideas?

My horse was taken ill last night and I was concerned he had Atypical Myopathy but his bloods have come back clear.
I would still like to identify these saplings though.

Looks a bit like beech.

Not oak. Could be sycamore.

It’s looking like hazel - the reddish tint on young leaves is a hazel trait.
If you dig it up you should find the hazlenut at the end of the stalk to confirm ID.

Yeah, my first thought was field maple, but then something about it didn't look quite right

The most recent picture looks more like birch

Went to a crop of sycamore saplings near me on dog walk this morning and took some photos for you to compare to the ones in your field.

Cannot get the photos small enough to add here, sorry, but essentially they look exactly like yours, complete with red colouring.

I also think sycamore probably Little oaks have very oak like leaves.

Luckily my horse is fine - its not Atypical Myopathy.
His temperature was high at 39.9, respiratory high and the bloods confirmed his inflammatory markers were 540, instead of below 20.
The temp and respiratory are now back to normal, just about and he's looking back to his normal self today. Phew.
We don't know what started this all off though.

But I do need to tackle those saplings..............

That is definitely sycamore, we've got the same in our autumn paddock. Horrible things

I’ve found one small sycamore tree among all the oak ones I have - see leaf photo

Also the allotments next door are coming over on Saturday to confirm the ID of the saplings. They also told me they have a sycamore on their bank line which if it’s very windy could well blow the seeds across.

Even if it's not AM this time I'm not sure I wish risk it and would remove all the saplings it's not worth the risk.

Looks like sycamore. I have pulled around 3000 seedlings so far. Started in February and today is the first day I haven't found any. It has been a huge crop this year and they are still bloody sprouting! I'm in the South West.

Sycamores are an acer, as is maple. They have red stems and the seed leaves are quite firm.
