Can anyone tell me about the conventions around using suffixes/prefixes when picking a passport name? Still haven’t chosen Yoshi’s 🙈

His sire was Diamond de Reve, and grand sire Hermes de Reve. I love the idea of ‘Coer de Reve’ for yoshi but don’t know much about naming conventions / etiquette.

I’ve done a google and can’t see that ‘de Reve’ belongs to a particular stud - is it open season on using such suffixes?

Coeur, surely?
Heart of dreams in English, if you don’t want to mess with registrations

To use a prefix/suffix you need to register it first.
Yes, with the Central Prefix Register, then also with specific breed society, if any.
I have my prefix registered with the CPR and with 3 breed societies.

I can't comment on the rules for registration for prefixes/suffixes, but I'm inclined to think that "de Reve" in this instance doesn't actually constitute a suffix. It is very common to name a horse including some part of either the sire's or dam's name, or something from further back in the breeding. For example: Sire, King of Diamonds - Dam, Golden Flight - Progeny, Diamond Flight. This not only honours the bloodlines, but also gives potential buyers a clue to their breeding without claiming it was bred by a particular stud.
