napping going home

why would a horse start napping going home? A horse im riding keeps backing up and bucking when were getting near to the yard entrance. I rode the other night with a young horse. he kept calling for his mates too.

I met a mare who did that and could not fathom it out either. Pain from ill-fitting saddle getting worse near end of ride was all I could think of.

I had mare that did something similar to, she would plant herself meters for home, I could turn and walk away from home but not towards!! Very bizare & never got to the bottom, sorry no help!!

^^^ This.. Or some other pain somewhere. MiLs horse does this am I'm pretty sure this is why...

My mare used to do this when we did short hacks where we went out and turned round to go back the way we'd gone it was almost likeshe was saying 'mum haven't been out long enough'! She doesn't do it any more but then again we tend to do circular routes now as we have much better hacking

Mine did it for a week or so last winter due to not being ridden for 6 weeks cos of snow... He was definitely telling me we hadn't gone far enough...

How often are you hacking out? Is horse bored in usual routine? But I would get checks done to be on safe side.

Very odd, check saddle fit of course. But if you just hop off and lead him, you may well a few times (a little before his usual place he stops), it may help to break the pattern. If you are able to ride a circular route that may help as well.
