Nappy going into ring

Hello all

I have got a mare who I have owned a few months now, all is good except she is nappy when going into the ring show jumping. Once she is in and going forwards she is absolutely fine no sign of stopping flyes over the jumps. She stands up and goes backwards for what seems like an eternity so have been eliminated for taking too long to start but thankfully had a few kind judges who are patient.

Has anyone got any suggestions to help. She is fine in all other respects.

Thank you

This usually stems from anxiety so you need to get someone to lead her in for reassurance then you praise her when she steps in and starts to go forward, most venues will allow this but if it is not possible then go out a few times doing just CR until she understands what you want, I have had a few similar and they normally get over it using this method, it is different to something napping once they are in and refusing to jump so from that point of view you are fairly lucky.

My friend has one that has to be led into the ring and then trot straight off or preferably led in in trot. No show has ever objected to her being led in
