Well Im still struggling with said horse. Those of you that have followed previous posts know that everything has been tried. It takes me a good half hour when out alone to get him the first couple of hundred yards away from the yard because he just plants. Although there has been a slight improvement, most people seem to be of the opinion that once he has got the idea he doesnt get to turn round he will give up.Well, he obviously hasnt read the books as we are still having the same problems every day. Is this a record, or has anyone taken longer ???

And I do mean we have tried everything, been there done that, got the t shirt.!

Perfect I was hoping you'd say south east!

Have you tried Jason Webb? If anyone can sort this problem and point you in the right direction afterwards it's him.

If sending him there is too expensive, then you can take your horse there and have a session with him or he will come to you.

Totally worth it. Have a look at his website:

Don't think I've followed your posts, so I'm sorry for asking a question that no doubt you have answered a 100 times over, what do you think is the trigger, is it seperation issues, lack of confidence, age or a mixture of all, any difference when another rides with you?

10 months of trying isn't that long unless you have dealt with each possible issue seperately.

Its good that you have accepted the way he is be it enjoying him in other ways either schooling or out competing (anything but hacking basically) because your then putting less pressure on yourself and your horse about the whole thing, which is a good thing, you can rush these things, specially if you horse is a stubbon so and so just to add more problems to the pot but don't give up, where there's time, there's a way.

Hello!

I have a napper too although turning small circles and then giving quick tap with a schooling whip (if I have to do it more than once) does seem to do the trick. Different if they are genuinely scared of something but I know mine is often just taking the proverbial!

What is he like if you were to walk him out with someone to a halfway point say 10/15 minutes away so he could follow their lead and then come back by yourself? Is it only napping when leaving the yard or all the time if he's on his own? Then you can gradually just reduce the amount of time someone stays with you.

I still have the close to home issue which I think only repetition and being consistent will resolve but once we've got going she's miles better and sometimes even forgets that she has company with her and strides out in front!

I'm hoping when I have some time off next month and can do the 'leaving the yard by ourself' excercise every day for a week that I'll see a marked improvement. Also she is generally enjoying her work more now too and my confidence with her has grown which I think helps.

Sorry if I've just repeated what has already been discussed, I havent seen your other posts. I've had my horse longer than you but to be honest its only been in the last 6 months that I've really worked on this issue and she is improving.

Good luck I'm sure he will come good and the napping will lessen in time :)
