Would best suit madam ? .

Lightweight hunter or Riding Horse class ? .

For those that don't know ... Missy is I would say just over the 16.2hh mark .

The northern Ireland horse festival is coming up in a couple of weeks time and I thought bugger it Ill bung her into one of the above classes just to see what judges think of her .

Also could folk just remind me on turnout for riding horse class please :) .

I'd go riding horse. They should have a bit more floaty action than a hunter.

Turnout is tweed with shirt and tie, and a nice fancy browband for her!

I'd say LW hunter.

You don't want a high knee action in either Hunters or Riding horse. LW hunters are usually 16.1/16.2 with 8.5 inches bone.

Plain hunter bridle, tweed jacket, beige jods, shirt & tie.

you could take her in both classes and see how they go? at least that way youd get advice from both judges?
out of interest. this mare of mine is too heavy for RH but too small for LW hunter - shes also 16.2hh

for the LW classes round me she doesnt have enough bone - for some reason our hunters are huge - my 17.3hh looks fine in the LW but dwarfed in the MW
this was here last year in her 1st ridden hunter class

show horses are always well up to height!! my 15.2hh small hunter was more like 15.3hh (had a jmb certificate at 14.3hh and a half ;) !!) and was the smallest in the classes by far!!

Turnout for Riding Horse is tweed jacket, pale blue or cream shirt, tie with tie pin, cream jodphurs, brown gloves and cane, Navy velvet hat and long black boots.
But I think she looks more like a lightweight hunter to me.

More of a hunter than Riding Horse. Though a hunter shouldn't have any sort of significant knee action. My boy floats across the ground, he's a middle weight and stands at just over 17.2 :/ Try both, I have friends that do, as horses are on the border between classes :/

hmm, its a toughie!
I'd say she has a LW appearance but actually is more RH than LW... she just has hunterish features!

If it helps, I enter merlin into RH because LW classes are usually the first ones on, so I get a lie in :p He fits into both ends - almost too hunterish for RH but with right bridle fits in, is just shy of 8" bone for LW... Too add some more confusion to the mix, he has also won in RH and LW...!

17.3 is too big really for a LW class imo - the general accepted height is 16.2 and then 17hh for MW.

4 year old class? if so put her in both, as she is a bit weak for proper LW still :)

RH is Tweed jacket, shirt and tie, double bridle with coloured browband.

LW is tweed, shirt and tie, double with plain hunter bridle (the one you have ;) )

Ahh see your getting what I am saying ;) Not that anyone els didn't :o .

But you see what I mean when it comes to getting it right .

Oh definitely 4 year old as she is no where near filled out enough for the proper LW . Plus the fact we are still having some schooling issues . :)

So really the only difference in turnout is browband ?

Cheers folks xx

lol, takes one to know one, eh? :D

stick her in both, and see what happens, judges might say she is both ends of classes as well :p

Yep, browband is only difference tack wise :)

hope camp was good fun, and good luck at cavan (i think its there?) :)
