I've posted about this some time ago in New Lounge but thought I'd try here incase there are any startling revelations to be had!

Basically Jack has a lot (about half a mug full can come out when he stretches to scratch his face) of runny, clear discharge from his left nostril only, after exercise. His breathing is not laboured in any way and he doesn't tire quickly. The vets have swabbed it twice and each time there has been nothing bacterial in it. Teeth checked too and nothing to report there either.

I am beginning to think that there might be a blockage or something up the nasal cavity - his lungs seem fine as I say there isn't any breathing difficulties or changes. Has anyone any experience of anything similar - any ideas on next plan of action. It's been a recurring issue for over 4 months or so now but the vets say it isn't to worry about since he isn't affected in anyway - I on the otherhand don't think it's right and want something more done.

I am going through this with my horse at the moment. Vets and instructor thought it was nothing to worry about. Dentist said teeth looked ok when she was floated in January.

I had her scoped and her head x-rayed last Wednesday because, like you, I wanted to know what it was/where it's coming from as it's just not normal, even though her fitness hasn't been at all affected.

I was a bit gobsmacked. X-rays appeared to reveal a bone cyst in the sinus....certainly a suspicious mass. X-rays were sent off to Leahurst.

I have just heard back that she is going in for standing stock surgery under heavy sedation. However, the good news is that Leahurst think the problem is a tooth. Not sure if they're going to remove it yet, will have to see what they decide when she's there.

She goes in on the 27th.

I would say that if you aren't happy, then the only way to give you piece of mind is to have a few more investigations done. Whatever is wrong with Patches, I have obviously caught before it causes her any major trauma. The fact that she has been fine to ride is an indicator of what a genuine little horse she is. I don't think I'd want a bit in my mouth if I had any form of toothache.

it just seems funny that it is clear if anything wrong usually going on the snott would be cloudy green yellow brown redish!
