Just wondered if anyone has any suggestions as to the cause of my horses nasal discharge. Yesterday i witnessed a large dollop of snot fall out of his left nostril and it was snot (thick and white). This morning there was another bit at his stable door. This appears to be seasonal and he has only recently started being stabled at night(for around 2 weeks now). He had the same last winter and the vet could not find any cause for this- lungs, temperature normal and he is well within himself, eating normally etc. Could this be caused by being stabled - he is on rubber matting and bedmax. The hay isnt dusty either. Does anyone have any suggestions what this may be or any supplements they could recommend. thanks
 
the old mare at our yard gets this, she gets a blocked sinus and this is what comes out when it clears.
 
For mine, this was the beginning of a dust allergy. I ignored it and shouldn't have :-( Would suggest the hay needs soaking. My vet said all hay made in the UK should really be soaked.
 
My horse occasionally has green mucous from her nostrils. At first i was really worried, especially as she occasionally has a little dry sounding cough. I have asked 2 vets opinions and after examination they have said its just a sensitivity to dust but nothing major like COPD. I recently had her out for a gallop and the next day she brought up this mucous from her nose, i talked to my riding instructor about it who told me that because her lungs were working hard the mucous was cleared from her system, so i take it a good gallop is good for a nice spring clean of the lungs!
 
.................also i forgot to mention, I now feed my horse high strength garlic powder as its great for the respiratory system- i have noticed my mare coughing less since iv been feeding it everyday ;-)
