Has your friend got enemies? That girth looks af it has been cut

[/ QUOTE ]

thats what i was thinking..

no freyed edges of cloth or elastic???

could they have been tampered with??

[/ QUOTE ]

You have both said what I was thinking when I first saw it

but didn't want to say. But, the bits go inside the leather and are stitched? Will take close up pics when I get back from yard.

But if this was true wouldnt you have notice it when doing the girth up

Did speak to T this morning but still hope she is ok

Jane, someone with a lot of time and patience could have removed the stitching, which it looks like they may have done. Even shoddy workmanship would have left more than one thread end.

Thats chilling.

Hope both T and J are feeling better soon! And I'd keep a close eye on T's tackroom if people are playing sick games like that!

legal advice a must,
in terms of nerves,
make it clear to her it was girth not horse and a 1 off, maybe invest in an overgirth or strong surcingle to use as 1, the 2 are similar anyway, and that may give her confidence even if she mistrusts the tack.

wish you best of luck!!

Not necessarily.. depends what side you have the elastic.. I always use the elastic on the right hand side so people are less likely to over tighten the girth, and though you should go round to right hand side to check, some people don't.

The girth has broken on the side where you don't do it up

Tracy is bruised but not broken. Jeddah has concussion and will be fine in a few days (he is being so kind just now! )

Javajane, do not send the girth back or they will try to cover up and claim there was nothing wrong. Send pictures of it and get an independent statement from the society of master saddlers confirming what the problem with the girth is. Allow the manufacturers to examine the girth but not take it away as it is evidence of what caused your friends accident.

What a nast accident!! It looks from teh pics as if the stitching on teh top girth buckle wasnt squarely on the elastic, so the girth wont have been holding the stress properly, and once ne went the other woul dhave taken all the stress then gone to. BUT I would hope that they would be designed in a way that even if the stitching was 50% it would not break like that. I know they can be overtightened, but I have never seen them tightened so tight that they could snap!

I also have one of those girths - well BOTH brands that make them, and have recently changed to a double ended elastic leather one as I just did not trust them as they don't put even stress on the saddle.

Ditto what everyone says, do not under any circumstances send them the girth. Take LOTS of pictures and contact the SMS.

Good grief, your poor friend, hope she is on the mend, and same goes for the horse. Its a cautionary tale to check tack regularly... Let's hope nobody else suffers the same way. Good on you for taking up the cause on her behalf, you sound like a good friend.

I hope your friend and her horse are ok and that you manage to get some kind of satisfaction from the girth company.
I do hope that it hasn't been sabotage, but seriously, if the girth had been cut, surely it would have failed as soon as it was done up for the first time?
It almost looks to me as though it has been glued but not stitched, or the stitching has not gone through all layers.

I use these girths too and have always found them to be ok. I don't think this means that they are all bad, just unfortunately one that has slipped through quality control, or a "Friday afternoon job"

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and I hope her confidence hasn't taken too much of a knock.
As has been said, an overgirth would give confidence when she starts out again.

Horrible incident, glad both horse an rider aren't too badly injured. Have to say I do feel for the people in the car too - presuming it was a moving car not just parked? Must have been pretty terrifying for them too!
