My boy has had scabby bits around his coronets for ages and ages. I've tried treating them as mud fever, but they don't go away in good weather. I've tried various mud fever treatments - sudocrem, udder cream, Fuciderm, a few other branded gunks that I can't remember the name of. Other than the udder cream, they seem to do the trick for a while and then he starts reacting badly to them and the scabs get worse. I finally got the vet to swab and culture the exudate, and he has been on three weeks of oral antibiotics along with antibiotics mixed into udder cream and applied topically. This is interspersed with washing with hibiscrub and soaking in dilute dettol. Things are looking a little better, but the deepest cracks are not healed. I will keep going back to the vets, but wondered if anyone else has experienced this and managed to get rid of it??
Thanks in advance.
