nasty posting

Marydoll, I just look forward to the attack that will come my way and to see how she can change my username to insult me.

Of course, calling you baby doll is cute, surely barbie doll would have been more insulting!
Maybe she fancies you?

I think being on the forum is a good lesson in life. I've had some cracking advice here, my latest thread on schooling my young horse is a perfect example of what's great about forums. But you do have to be choosy about what advice you follow.

It's also up to you how much you join on the bun fight. I usually feel I have to say something about lack of evidence when people are pushing expensive nutritional "supplements" or alternative medicine, but boy can you get a kicking for that.

It's very difficult because you can get a form of group think in forums where anyone who disagrees with a certain idea gets chased away and so that idea gets very ingrained and becomes accepted truth. The lesson here is that just because someone defends something aggressively it doesn't make it true.

Also some people can't be helped. I've had too many conversations along the lines of:

Me: "there's no evidence",
Other: "but my third cousin Eric had a horse and tried this and said there was a miraculous change"
Me: "that's an anecdote is there any evidence?"
Self appointed expert: "I am hugely offended that you should doubt the validity of this approach. I have been doing it for years and have many anecdotes and also there's a 10 week course that practitioners do to make them experts",
Me: gives up and gets a nice cup of tea.

Talking of which. Hear the kettle boiling. . . .

Paula

I agree Paulag, but just because you want evidence to try something doesn't mean it doesn't/won't work and it's brilliant when people try things and they get success.
If I had listened to all the doubters my horse would have been pts now - no question of that. But I used alternative approaches and they all said the same thing and I got him conventionally diagnosed and rehabed and he is a changed horse now with a life. So I never discount a method because I can't see hard evidence. I am always open to trying something new if there is a chance it may be the answer I need.
We can't prove how life was created so how can we hope to prove or discount theories for sure ? :)

This thread makes very sad reading. A lot of posters ganging up on one poster for being outspoken on another thread. So she spoke her mind, and doesn't like pregnant mares being sold on, and doesn't like the site which was suggested to do so? That's just her opinion to which she's entitled.

And as for the outrage at the misspelling of someone's username. For heaven's sake. Listen to yourselves, please.

Gutted that I missed all this fun!

Have a suggestion for gv though. How about your next username being "boomerang"
. I look forward to your 5th coming ...

Ive got no problem with people putting their point of view over, but it can be done without being rude and insulting, the poster, GV who i believe to be a Troll with numerous user names knew exactly what she was doing, and yes its better to walk away which is why she was asked to jog on.
The op came on and asked for advice not insults from a troll

She is not a troll. Look up the dictionary definition
She gave her valid opinion in a forthright manner, it doesn't make her a troll.

I come from a very arguementative family who loves to cross words with each other have very differing views and then sit down and have tea. To outsiders we must look very agressive and some of the things we may say in the heat of an arguement may look hurtful but they are not intended or taken that way.
Some families never argue, I married in to one like that and the first time I offered a differing oppion to my future father in law you could hear the intake of breath.
Just because you have strong oppinions doesn't make them abbusive but it doesn't make them right either and it can be expected that other people will defend there oppinions just as strongly.
There are lots of thing people do that I disagree with or would never do my self but unless its against the law they have a right to do it.

So, this user posts something you don't agree with in 's spade is a spade' kind of way.
Do you ignore this?
No, you start a fresh thread so people can all pile in.
Do you think that makes you any better than her ?
It's rather ironic, don't you think?

Couldn't have put it better myself!

You are just as bad as the member you have created a thread about to slag off. If you don't like a member then ignore them, you do not need to read their posts. If you have a personal problem then report. SIMPLES!!

I'm really sad to see her name has gone dark. She is forthright, but also a knowledgeable horsewoman whose opinion is always worth considering.

Definitely not a troll.

There is forthright and civil, imo she attacked the op from the outset, yes shes entitled to her opinion, but the op's also entitled to ask for help without someone telling she couldnt care less. yes some replys were awful but if you set out to cause a stir, youll get it.
You dont think shes a troll, i do ..... difference of opinion, i dont need to look up a definition, i am of the opinion she posted in that manner to create argumentative and imflammatory responses, which imo she got.

Is now a good time to say I can't see anything wrong with selling an in-foal mare? In fact, I would do with buying one right now...

No? Not a good time then.

and BTW, GV will be back, if she isn't already. I couldn't be arsed to track her down, but I'm sure somebody will.

In general on here I would say the actual incidences of people being horrid for the sake of it or plain vile are vastly outnumbered by those who are too easily offended. And on numerous occasions I have read blunt, but true & unbitchy posters have groups of posters all responding with horrid personal remarks. More than once I've been accused of being unpleasant because I hold a different opinion. Sorry, but if someone asks something I disagree with, or just plain stupid, I'm not going to write some sucking up reply that's basically a lie about my true opinion incase I offend them. Some posts I've read either directed at me, or just a general view point I could take as deeply offensive, or just disagree with. But its really not necessary to take it to heart & get upset over. I disagree entirely with gv's opinions on dd. But that doesn't mean they are vile or cruel, just bluntly expressed & not the same as mine. And if gv or anyone else posts conflicting views to my own, it doesn't mean I can't/won't agree on another subject. I have far more respect for those willing to voice a differing view, than those who are just sheep with no voice of their own. Or those who take differing opinions as personally offensive & either play the bullying card or get overly emotional, or very rude in response.

Re: Do I stand a hope in hell of selling an in-foal mare right now?

I think you have a good chance of selling your mare that is in foal, as long as you dont care who buys her or what happens to the poor unfortunate foal. I think even giving them away would be preferable than trying to gain a bob or two.

Nope this is the thread, and yes its still judgemental and nasty, shes not started on dd yet

No it is not judgemental nor nasty - you just got upset because she called you babydoll!

And why shouldn't she be annoyed by someone trying to belittle her by taking the mick out her username?

Bottom line is that TFC also thought she was being out of order.

Let's not let her win further by arguing after the event! She will be back. The 5th coming wont be long and we can all have some more fun reading her posts.

Don't think so, bottom line is that TFC was obviously alerted to the fact she was a previously banned member, and as nicki highlighted, it was very easy to prove! I don't think anything she said as GV was actually that bad.

Yes she will be back, though I think that there have been more than 4 names so far :) The funny thing is, that I think were MD and GV to meet, they'd actually have a lot in common, and I think that they would get on :D

And for whoever spotted that GV 'knew' me, yes I'd spotted who she was a few days ago :D

She has the right to defend herself.

Like a few people have said GV is a very knowledgeable horse-woman and I think it's a shame she's been banned.

What is dunroamins new username? I feel totally out of the loop, though I was quite pleased that I managed to figure out who GV is/was! :p

I was a nasty replier.. probably the meanest too :(

I'm sorry, but if she was right there in front of me I'd have said the exact same thing and probably a little more.

In hindsight, i shouldn't have included the expletive. But hijacking a thread to (what appeared to be) provoking an explosive response was only ever going to end in trouble.

I apologise to the rest of HHO for being such a meany with my extremely expressive response to a certain someones posting but the OP was asking a question as she was in a real pickle, there was no need to be derogatory to her just because she questioned whether DD was an ok place to advertise for her type. And as was proven in that thread, there are some lovely ponies on that site, show ponies and the like mixed in with the rest of the stock.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, i know, but sometimes people overstep the line a little.. or a lot. (yes I did too.)
At the end of the day, nobody's perfect. Apologies if anyone was offended by what i said.
:o

Id also like to say, if GV is a knowledgable horse person it is sad that shes no longer on the forum, but i dont care how knowledgable anyone is, it doesnt give them the right to try to knock someone down from the outset, there is frank exchange and thats fine, but imo how she put her views over, by trying to paint the op as completely uncaring goes beyond that .
I feel more sorry for the op in this, she came on asking for some advice and got her thread blown out of the water,in the main by peoples reactions to GV's posts.

Clearly me again... Can we leave it now, i already feel bad enough for ruining OP's thread.. :(

I agree, but as the old playground comments go "she started it"

I wasn't online for this latest cat fight but I am sure there will be another. Just feel sorry for OP who's thread was hijacked!
