I was driving about 60mph on duel carriageway just ouside Hatfield tonight. The car in front put hazzards on and I slowed. There were 2 ponies (possibly youngsters) cantering up the verge, one wearing a headcollar and one with a broken headcollar hanging round it's neck. I slowed right down with hazzards on and tried to straddle both lanes to stop the traffic (a large 4x4 has it's uses sometimes). As I pulled across the ponies dived in front of me and an idiot sped past me half on central reservation. The ponies dodged him and were then gallopping down the middle of the road between 2 lanes of oncoming traffic at 60mph. There was no way I could get back to them at this point as I was totally boxed in by speeding traffic that was swerving round the ponies and carrying on. My OH was in the car and he phoned the police immediately who sent high speed response.
I feel so bad, I was totally helpless and could do nothing to get to them, they were moving so fast away from me, and I was aware that if I got out of the car I would seriously endanger my life.. I wasn't really too sure if I wanted to see anyway as I guess it would be messy.
I may phone the police tomorrow and ask the worst as I need to find out.
I just can't believe the attitude of the drivers.
