I had a new bit break with me, a posh Neue Shule, with the ball/socket joint. I called them and they weren't overly interested. I wrecked a set of newish Stubben reins leading the horse back with the reins through his mouth (fit hunter and leading him back from the noseband wouldn't have done). They gave me my money back and some crappy new reins, and the bits stayed on sale for ages after, until more people had accidents.

2013-CCHEcrp2.jpg Similar to this, but not gold in colour.

I was horrified that they didn't take it more seriously, as I had a less experienced mature gentleman riding the horse at the time and he was well capable of riding the horse, but not of throwing himself off before the horse hit top speed. No concern about the horse or rider at all. I believe they did start down the road of how I cleaned it and checked it, but it was only about 6-8 weeks old so obviously a manufacturing error. Terrible customer care. Cost a bloomin' fortune as well.

I learned...

1. I haven't bought a Neue Shule bit since.
2. I now only buy bits where joints are like a chain, so simple and strong. So like a jointed or double jointed metal bit, or a straight bar, but no fancy joints.

I’m glad my Nathe is a straight bar because there’s no other bit that my horse is happy in. I’ve used these for years now, without issues but I wish I could find a longer lasting alternative. Has anyone tried the cu-chullain (I think that’s how it’s spelt) ones?
