Not strictly CR sorry but thought you guys would have a better idea of bits etc. I am trying to get hold of a sprenger duo pelham or a nathe palham in 14.5cm. Don't really want to pay the extortiante GB prices - any one able to translate the german websites and suggest a better place to get one from? or even better does anyone know anywhere that does them second hand? seen a nathe on german ebay but I have no idea what it says about it! Your help much appreciated!!!

just to check you have deffo tried a HM or a FM pelham first to avoid disappointment!

I use eBay.de alot and often run things through babelfish or similar translator if that helps? The euro is still rather poxy for buying from the continent- have you tried all the UK sites?

Hi LuceMoose - I ordered a Flexi mouth pelham but when it arrived it felt really UN-flexible! I have had a nathe snaffle before so i know they are more 'friendly'. Maybe I should give it a go!? I have been using a big black rubber pelham but he drools so much im sure he is unable to swallow properly - hence trying to find a slimmer one.....

EVS, i have both the sprenger duo and nathe pelhams. Both are far superior to Happy mouth or flexi mouth and have soft flexible mouthpieces. However they are subtly different from each other. the sprenger duo has a slightly longer shank and a curb chain like a traditional pelham. the nathe pelham has a thinner mouth piece and has longer cheek (ie like a hanging cheek snaffle bit) and has a strap rather than a curb chain the sits higher up than the curb groove. The strap supplied with the bit is actually a nylon spur strap and in my opinion way too tight so I have replaced it with a leather flash strap that can be done up loosely. I have a sensitive horse whose mouth can rub easily but can get fired up jumping and needs brakes. She goes great in either bit but for whilst the squarer shape of the duo sprenger still rubs at the corners of her mouth the nathe pelham does not so I use that.
I did investigate fully buying from germany and di get my sprenger duo on german ebay second hand and cheap using google translate and my brother who lives in germany. Couldn't find the same for the nathe one and had to pay full price from the Bit Bank.

Thank you so much for that IncaCola thats really useful info! I was a bit curious about the strap on the nathe but assumed i could prob change it if it didn't suit. As I mentioned above I did have a nathe before and i really liked the mouthpiece texture but havent seen the sprenger 'in the flesh' though it does sound like the sprenger is more similar to the traditional pelham in terms of shanks etc. Thanks fo the help - I will keep researching....
