I saw a brief snippet on BBC Breakfast this morning about the National Riding Festival that apparently begins today (they had a couple of little girls on ponies in the Blue Peter garden). I couldn't wait to watch the actual piece on it as had to come to work. Anyone know anything about the National Riding Festival? I haven't heard anything previously . . .

I saw it on the BBC too. The bit I saw was just about kids riding and older people getting back into horses, not really sure why they showed it. Loved the bit when the male presenter said it's a sport, well of a kind

According to the report only 7% of the population ride

They visited a riding school, talked about why lessons are expensive (but not as expensive as your own horse), school overheads and the dangers of riding. That was about it really, the actual festival apparently runs from now till September and I think it's just about getting people into riding. not very comprehensive really.

mine costs less to keep than an hours lesson at a riding school each week!

I have just been on the web site and there are events going on around the country. My nearest one is in Northampton - East Lodge stables where if they have a bar open I can at least drag along a couple of non-horsey friends!

Then I will be going and dragging along some non-horsey friends with the promise of a long cold beer. I might even be able to get them on Trigger!
