Native dog breeds becoming endangered

People will pay money for registered or unregistered dogs these days, so just because they arent registered doesnt mean people arent breeding them. In fact its more of a hassle to register them to money breeder. So to be fair the figures arent correct. although I guess they make a good generalisation.

Exactly, there Kennel club figures not evey dog has to be registered with them! Working sealyhams, wheatens, Imaals etc are still being bred and used - However they are bred for purpose and not too ridiculous KC standards. Know which i'd rather have!

And looking at it from the other side, there are probably far more huskies etc that are not kc registered, so I bet the numbers have increased even more than suggested by those figures.

Some pics of vunerable breeds, I think the Lancashire Heelers look stunning.

They are all lovely looking dogs. But the Norfolk Terrier breeder saying people won't pay £1000 for a puppy - well nor would I! There's no way I'd pay that much for any dog, not when there are great dogs in rescue that can be rehomed for less than a tenth of that money.

Once there are fewer dogs in rescues, perhaps then is the time to worry about making even more dogs.

The sad thing is that they are also breeding any old rubbish. Dalmations apart from the health issues are being bred from terrible example of the dog. Their spots arent meant to join up and you can see some of them now with whole patches of colour on them. There was one on the TV near christmas that had given birth to something like 14 puppies and the mother well its was not a good example of the breed because obviously they had no idea. A good breeder would never put their dog to that.

Pugs with terrible breathing problems and queen anne legs. Just because they are the dog of the moment.

If they want £1000 for a dog why are they breeding? Greedy people I am afraid.

I have alway been a scottish deerhound person all my life (owned for 20 yrs) and they are on the rare breeds list too, many of our native breeds are on the brink of disappearing and it doesnt help with the cost of puppies when a litter does appear!
I lost my last hound to bone cancer 4 yrs ago and I still miss him desperately so am houndless, but the price of purchasing are very high, I know they have to test for LS etc, but sometimes these bitches produce large litters. My last dog cost me £400 a few years ago, now people want £700/£800 a pup, if you have 8 puppies thats a lot of money! I would love another but cant affford!
