HAS ANYONE HAD EXPERIENCE OF "THE NATIVE PONY SADDLE COMPANY"? THINKING OF HAVING A MADE TO MEASURE FOR A VERY HARD TO FIT MARE AND THEY SEEM TO TALK SENSE ON THEIR WEBSITE AND SPECIALISE IN THE WIDER, LOW WITHER HORSE? LOTS OF MONEY THOUGH, SO SEEKING A BIT OF INFO BEFORE I SACRIFICE THE CREDIT CARD!!!

I can't speak of this company high enough if this is the one you mean? My saddle by them is fab and I have an extremely flat, difficult to fit Connie x

If its another company with a very similar name then I can't comment but I've always been recommend the one above and was pleased I went with them in the end.

I had a little sec a who I couldn't get a saddle for, had the native saddle company out and it fitted pony and jockey, looked great, never moved and i wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Sounds great, thankyou both so much for the replies. It is the saddle company with the horse head as a logo and I think they are something to do with reactor panel saddles too?

Hi Liz - I'm a fitter for Native Pony (the one linked to above, and I do fit for more than one of the posters above :D) and can answer any questions you may have. Andrea Hicks who runs www.nativeponysaddles.com has designed and fitted the saddles for more than 10 years - we used to be part of the other company I think you are alluding to, but that is now run by a very different team of people.

I chose to work with Andrea when the company split - we have introduced a few very successful new models and well as the Phoenix brand. Most of the NP fitters are also fully trained RP fitters, though, as with NP the situation with the brands is very confusing for which I an only apologise. We hope the situation will finally be remedied this summer.

What I will say is that we really don't make to measure - we usually fit from stock, and that is our aim. We are specialists and our saddles are designed to work on these awkward shapes from the off, rather than needing a different approach to every horse. Lke any bench made saddle company (ie hand made leather saddles, Walsall style) we can add a deeper rear panel, a longer flap etc where needed, but we find most horses and riders get comfy in a standard saddle.

Hope that helps.

I have a very awkward to fit pony, and sbloom came out & fitted a saddle for my lad - it wasn't made to measure for him specifically, but they have a lot of choices of saddles, and it wasn't too hard to find one that would fit him.

He is short backed, round with no wither, huge shouldered - I'd been seriously worried about finding one that would suit him without going made to measure, but I'm really pleased with the fit of this one.
