I'm thinking about groundwork classes for my horse and me. I feel I'm constantly battling with him, he thinks he's my equal or pretty close to it. He isn't dangerous, just exhausting, bargey and rude. I did a days work at a riding school recently as a favour and it was a pleasure to be around their horses which has brought it home to me how much I have to work at home. Can anyone recommend a natural horsemanship practitioner in the South East of Ireland. I'm very BHS and have always thought Parrelli a bit of a twit but I would really like to think my horse and I are working together rather than having to be on his case. I'd be happy to have even one lesson, just so I can be observed with how I react to him and him to me so we could have a few pointers on how to progress.
Tea and brack for everyone. :-)

You don't have to go for someone who is a "Natural Horsemanship" practitioner to learn how to do groundwork (I do think Parelli is a twit.).

I use a guy called Brian Byrne of Four Oaks Horsemanship who I can highly recommend, he has transformed my mare. I know he travels around the country and also over to the UK to give clinics. He is based in Trim, County Meath

did a session with brian as well and he was great. also donal halligan is amazing. hes on facebook. he is based in the north but travels

Try David Byrne in Wexford. Not "natural horsemanship" but he is a very good, practical horseman, trained at the Royal School of Equestrian Art in Jerez. And Parrelli is a twit.

Laura Domenica in Dublin (does travel!) is great with groundwork. Really helped me with a few tricky situations.

One lesson is a good start and as you say will give you some good pointers but you might need quite a few more than that to really get the hang of things.

Thanks everyone, I didn't expect this many replies :-D It is definitely the Kelly Marks approach I prefer so I'll try to find more about Stephanie Heeran. David Byrne as he seems close too but I couldn't find him when I looked earlier. I'm on my own so it would be great if I could join a clinic but I understand these may not come up often dealing with my particular issues. Thanks again for your help.
