. Was reading an article yesterday - think it was a competition to win some and I was really interested in whether anyone has used it. I'd never seen it before. My boy has regular bowls but isn't excessively wet. I've got him on straw because I was using too many shavings but is this a bed that you can, as they say, just skip out or does it require normal shavings management?

There are a number of companies that do wood pellets, whether you like them or not will depend on personal preference.

You won't get a deep bed with huge banks on this kind of bedding, but, in my opinion, it absorbs urine really well and ends up smelling a lot better than your average stable. You need to remove droppings as normal, and then remove any bits of bedding that have been deeply saturated with urine, mixing the rest in together to make more bedding (the pellets activate when wet so you mix the wet with the dry). I have mine on a litter system, i.e. rubber mats and a small amount of bedding for peeing on which takes me 5-7 minutes to do each stable, but this will depend on how big you want your bed to be.

I used AquaMax which is a pellet based thing, a bloody nightmare, excuse my language, i had to hand sift his bed every bloody day because we had to get through a pallet of the stuff, v v absorbant but and absolute knightmare to muck out.
I have the two dirtiest horses in the world, one is a my trainers at the moment and even they commented on what a mucky thing he is!

I have tried every make of bedding there is and I now swear by Nedz Bedz Original, its just chopped up straw, very economical, easy to muck out, half a barrow a day! smells wonderful and fresh, lovely deep beds with nice banks and they dont eat it, no eucalyptus so FEI legal, its brilliant, binds well so does not shift around the box, per bale it is about £6 i think and each bale goes a long long way! and no i dont sell the stuff it just really works well!

Ha ha are you sure you don't work for them now

My boy is dirty and the good thing about the straw is that the poo usually falls through it because I have it deep and stops him from getting filthy lying on it.

You've both made me think now, which is good cause I do have a tendancy to get something into my head and end up rushing in.
