And what did he/she do?? And did you love them for it??

Just been thinking about it after replying to a post in CR. I've got 2.

First one - Morris. 17.1 warmblood gelding. Totally gorgeous. lovely, playful chap in the stable but oh my god was he a git!!! Would basically do what he wanted and that was it, and he didn't want to do anything to begin with!! We eventually persuaded him he liked hunting and Dressage, and he was fab at both but he would still rear excessively at any opportunity.
tongue.gif
He totally couldn't be arsed with anything else so would generally scare everyone to death when hacking etc., he had a very good nack of pretending he'd go over backwards but never actually did!
smirk.gif
BUT he stayed with us until he had to be PTS due to injuries, we tired to get rid of him previously but ended up getting him back as he was too naughty!!
smirk.gif

Second one - Paddy. Who was incidentally Morris's best friend! 15.2 roan chunky Irish gelding. Similar attitude to Morris but luckily liked doing more stuff. He loved any kind of competition or hunting (anywhere he could show off) but detested any kind of hacking/schooling/practicing and really knew every trick in the book to try and kill you while hacking!!
confused.gif
I'm not sure if he was actually frightened or being naughty, but mum had an road accident with him when he ran away from her over a F&M disinfectant matt thingy.
frown.gif
He had to be PTS.

Just realised this is quite depressing but it wasn't meant to be, they both lived happy lives and I loved them all the more for there naughtiness!

Sooo - what do your naughty horses do??
grin.gif

Its hard to define between naughty and downright dangerous.

I took a pony on loan for my daughter last year who came from a large establishment so for years he was only turned out with geldings. When he came to live with my two mares it just blew his brains and he turned into a stallion despite being in his 20's!

He would viciously attack anyone who entered the field, he kicked, he barged, he broke down gates if put out on his own and was generally totally unsafe for my daughter to handle. However when he was tacked up and ridden he was fantastic and his jump was amazing.

So despite the fact that he had the potential to teach my daughter loads he had to go back - he was too dangerous.

Is that naughty enough for you?!!

hmmm would have to be rupert my 12hh welsh a. he was my first pony that i owned (had previous ones on loan) initially he was scared as he hadnt been treated well in the past and he was still a baby (5) once he realised that we wouldnt hurt him he turned into a little devil, he bucked me off at every oppourtunity, bolted, stopped u name it he did it, although i dont think he did it maliciously, its just not in his caracter! 9 years on i still own him and he is now an angel and has taught numerous children to ride and is an absolute jumping machiene!!!
grin.gif

Hmmm - not sure if this is 'naughty' - more dangerous. Used to ride a little hannovarian stallion. When he didn't want to do something he used to buck his rider off, turn round and jump on them. He put a few professonal riders in hospital. He had been very badly abused in the past so not really his fault. He should have been gelded as a youngster and I think he would have made a naughty horse (as all his foals were), but not a dangerous one. He never hurt me but I was extraordinarily careful wth him - always had him on cross ties in the box and never asked more than I knew he was happy to do/in the mood for under saddle. He was also the most talented horse I ever rode - hence why he (mistakenly) had not been gelded

Flyer the love of my life the Palomino below was the naughtiest pony that I have ever owned. I bought him as a two year old colt and wow did we have some battles
blush.gif

The first and last time that he bit me was when he was getting a bit big for his boots and full of testosterone! He had his own corral and walk in/out stable. He had loads of toys, balls and things to keep him amused, but one day he was in a really bulshy mood and decided to come up to me and bit me on my left breast
ooo.gif
Ouch......I felt so sick but, I wasn't going to let him get away with it, so, I bit him on his muzzle as hard as he bit me, he squealed like a pig and never did it again
grin.gif

After being cut at 3, I started to back him and took everything nice and slow, I remember the first day I put a saddle on him, he rounded up and bucked all the way over to the school
grin.gif
Bucking was his thing, when my friend used to call for me in dressage, the opening line was alway A: enter at working buck
grin.gif

Travelling
crazy.gif
Good days and bad, I took him to the South of England show and we had a great day out and ended up coming 5th, so I was chuffed to bits. But that was short lived
frown.gif

It had started to rain, so I thought I'd get him into the trailer and boot him up inside.......no Fly was having a no go day. We moved the trailer as it was also under a tanoy and thought that that was a problem.....no! Some Welsh D owners, the Rar Rar stallion type, said ' dont worry love we'll get him in'.......no.

Then the proffessional loaders came, never failed
crazy.gif
Until they met Fly, he actually put himself on the floor and would not get up
crazy.gif

Five hours later a nice man in a trilby and walking cane said ' I've been watching you, follow me I have a stable for the night' I think thats because by now we were the only people left on the show ground
laugh.gif

Bless him, I miss him so
wink.gif

I have only had 2 on loan then bought mine outright at 8 mnth old(he is an angel 12 yrs later, lol)!!However had the mini milton episode, stunning 15hh gorgeous grey, guys i worked for bought it to sell on(been in a field for 2yrs???They didnt question it
blush.gif
)!!I found out why....suck me,lol,!!!Jesus....the damn thing would lure you into a false sense of security and jump everything then....ohhhh my god,no consistency it would go ape and try and kill you
blush.gif
managed to sit it out nearly
blush.gif
lol, damn thing threw me against the wall of the indoor school, lol,i lived and is it still about???Probably not as it was 20yr ago
blush.gif
!!!
grin.gif

The naughty ones (to a degree) are always the best i think!
grin.gif

My horse of a life time so far is definitely Paddy (mentioned above) but he was dangerous, which I think contributed to his death TBH.
confused.gif
He *thought* he was larger than life and thought he knew best, but he didn't.

I can remember when I was 14 and was warming up for a Discovery - he started doing this huge big mad bronc, flat out around the warm up, chucked me off into the hedge the buggered off round the show ring! We got him back and my dad said "she's NOT getting back on THAT" and my mum said "ohh, he'll be ok now!" - he went on to win out of a class of 80!
smile.gif
grin.gif

Buster123 has reminded me of my first pony (it was so long ago!!) - 12hh Dartmoor, jet black with a white star. He would either go flat out or plant himself, sometimes in the middle of a hack and wouldn't go in any direction! He bucked, kicked, bit, bolted numerous times but boy did he teach me to ride!

At home he would jump anything - take him to a show and he wouldn't go in the ring. I even had a lady hitting him with her handbag! if I did get him in he would refuse three times at the first jump - God he was so damn clever!

My first pony Twiggy fits that bill for us. He'd come from a riding school background when we got him, and as a naturally cheeky chap he'd been allowed to get away with murder. He was awfully bargy, I needed help to tack him up and get on him for the first few months because he'd swing his quarters towards you when you tried to saddle him, and stick his head miles in the air when you tried to bridle him. Then he wouldn't stand still to be mounted at all. He didn't have a bad bone in his body but he was just terribly rude and had no manners. A couple of times he literally ran over my instructor, who was a big strong man! Ridden he was generally well behaved, but when we took him out hunting he was so bad - he bucked like mad at the meet, he'd rear when you tried to hold him up, and he was absolutely unstoppable - great fun though, would jump anything and go all day! He was a brill pony though, so much character.

By the time I sold him he'd calmed down a lot, still had a tendency to be a bit shovey but was fine so long as you were firm with him. Was actually a super little pony, perfect hack, never spooky, could ride him around a field in just a headcollar. He went to a local home to do PC things, and they've had him for the last 4/5 years now, love him to bits.

My Irish TB, Donnegan is a complete thug
blush.gif
He headbutts people out of his stable and headbutts when you put his headcollar on. Never try to muck out when he's in his stable as you'll end up face down in some poo
blush.gif
As for handling him, as long as you keep his routine the same every day you'll be fine, dare to change it and you'll know about it
frown.gif
Catch him in a bad mood and watch the teeth and flying legs
Ridden wise it just gets better
blush.gif
Never turn around on yourself on a hack as he threatens to rear and leap about and he needs to be in front when going faster otherwise he has difficulty in keeping all four feet on the floor.
Jumping which he loves, but make sure you have a strong seat for the bunnyhops when you land
frown.gif

Other than that he is just unpredictable and likely to explode at any time which is what he did after Christmas. No reason just spun round, leaping about and then rodeo'd until I hit the deck, breaking my collar bone
frown.gif
hence why he is now retired
blush.gif

His good points are he is 110% bombproof on the road and manages to keep my friends filly in line in the field
grin.gif

God, he sounds delightful doesn't he?
I haven't yet met an instructor who likes him, my instructor has offered to take him to longleat as she heard the lions were starving
crazy.gif
tongue.gif

Do I love him?
Yeah why else would I keep him as an expensive pet, although he does drive me nuts though!

I had an Irish pony, that must have been raced. A nutcase. He would plant himself when I got on and would only move by leaping sideways. Then out on a ride he would just canter sideways down the road, he wouldn't trot. This was a few years ago, it just couldn't be done now with the traffic on the roads.

I tried all sorts of bits but nothing made any difference, and rode him in a bitless sometimes. He certainly tried the patience of lots of pony club instructors. I usually had to sit on the side at rallies as they couldn't do anything with him. I had to go to be able to do the competitions! But my moment of triumph came at the end of a miserable Camp where we ended up winning the show jumping competition. "You have got a very difficult pony" said the DC when I got my cup!

Actually I never ever fell off him, because he didn't DO anything, he was just uncontrollable.

But he could jump and I won lots of show jumping and hunter trials with him, but he would only go flat out gallop. I remember going on a mock hunt with the Pony Club (wouldn't do it now, would they?) and he was so naughty I waited right at the back, and then he jumped all these absolutely huge hedges.

If I had him now I would know about backs, saddles, etc. but apart from having his teeth done and having him looked over by a vet, really we didn't know any better.

He was sweet to handle but we couldn't sell him and I got much too big for him, although he was with us for about 8 years and sadly decided to have him PTS in the field at home in the end as we couldn't really let him go to just anyone.

One of mine now is naughty (irish again!!) He is naughty funny not naughty dangerous. He can open the door bolt and let himself out. If he wants to come in he jumps over the gate (4ft is approx) and comes in. If you leave anything in his reach he picks it up and throws it. the list is endless. He is nearly 5 and lovely. He is lovely to ride bit lazy, safe to hack has breaks XC and jumps like a stag.

Im hoping to event him in the autumn. Everyone loves him as he is so funny and has a great character
grin.gif

i sitll have one a welsh mare shes keeped in a field with my friends horse when this girl started riding my friends horse she brought a brand new grooming kit when my mare thought it would be funny to kick everything every where and shes got this thing about sticking things in her mouth and swipping it across the floor it wasnt clean for long and the girl wasnt impressed

Without a doubt the naughtiest pony in the world, was my 12.2hh Champ, he used to drop his shoulder and make me fall off (at least once every day) he bit people when I was still on the lead rein, I only managed to make him canter by the time I had practically outgrown him, he was so slow and steady so we took him out hunting on the lead rein and mum ended wearing him for a hat practically!!!
Mum always wanted to get rid of him, but I adored him, so he stayed until we found him a loan home in his old age, where he was PTS at a good old age.

My hanovarion cross is very naughty, but a real character and I love him to bits (had him 12 years nearly).
Tricks include:
Learning to lean into my other horses stable and turn the tap on (about 3-4 turns) and flood her out in the night.
Leaning over the fence and scratching teeth marks all down the bonnet of my brothers new company car.
Bites the dog on the bum whenever he's not looking.
When I first got him my nan & grandad came to look it him and my grandad smoked... he does that thing when he wrinkles up his top lip and puts his head up whenever he smells smoke. Unfortunatly he then feels the need to blow his nose, so he liberally plastered both my grandparents in green slop/ snot/ grass mixture!!
I always say he's a shetland pony trapped in a hanovarian's body!!

Hmm my horse is naughty but is so nice in general he gets away with it! he came to college with me 10 years ago (he was 6) and I warned them he was very quick at opening his door and had a clip put on it. Still, they didn't take me seriously and I heard many stories about his 'escapes' (he could also undo the clip put on his bolt!), he only ever went to see other horses in neighbouring stables or to the tack rooms to see what was going on!
grin.gif

I wouldn't change him, it's what makes him who he is! Think he just likes people far too much and wants to know what you're doing all the time.
laugh.gif

However, I also think he (and his field pals) are vandals! Was on holiday last year - well meaning parents thought too many cars were on the drive at home so thought they'd leave mine (suzuki vitara soft top) down at the stables. Hmm, wish they'd checked the gate to the stables was shut though! Horses got in (mine can open gates with his lip!) and obviously thought about said car "ooh, that's new" and proceeded to eat it! they destroyed the roof and the bonnet and psychologically I don't think poor car ever recovered
frown.gif
as started breaking down after and I have now got rid (was costing far too much to fix!). Still don't know who was the main offender although i have my suspicions as one especially seem to enjoy scraping his teeth down bonnets! Think mine may be responsible for the roof though. Funny thing was they didn't touch the horsebox parked there as I guess that's always there so wasn't of so much interest!!! Grrrr
tongue.gif

I remember a horse at my old riding school that was only ridden by one guy, Dan, and he had only been riding a couple of years and was completely self taught - thing is he could sit to anything. The horse was called Chezney, but everyone called him Chez, and he was a complete nightmare. As is said he was only ridden by Dan, but sometimes I would ride him out on hacks. I remember one time i got on him in the yard, and as soon as i put my bum down he reared
crazy.gif
crazy.gif
in front of customers of the riding school! then i would take him out for a hack and we would go across the river, he would get halfway across the estuary then just spin, buck, rear - if it is possible he would do it all at the same time!!
crazy.gif
crazy.gif
once he did that with dan and seriously he was spinning round and round - i've never seen anything like it. Dan fell off, then Chez galloped back towards the road so I chased after him on my horse! (Chez's sister!
shocked.gif
) it was like something out of a western film i swear. Chez slowed down and i had to lean over and grab his reins. Then Mystic (the horse I was on) decided to start jumping around as well
crazy.gif
crazy.gif
but i caught him - and had to wait for Dan to walk back halfway across the estuary
smirk.gif
smirk.gif

I took him jumping once, only 2ft 3, but he seemed to really enjoy himself - and only bucked the once! I think he didn't fit in with the hacking and trekking lifestyle and needed some routine.

One time I was riding Mystic bareback to the field, and my friend was on Chezney - again bareback. I said to her i didn't think it was a good idea as it was along a road as well but she was only 17 and was one of those riders that likes to show off lol *rolls eyes* we got about 5 minutes down the road and he started threatening to rear, so she got off, he reared and knocked her in the head, she lat go and he galloped down the road.
frown.gif
frown.gif
he fell on his side in front of a small lorry (which thank god slowed down!) he just got up and galloped off again!
mad.gif
I was on Mystic who was cantering down the road, but i managed to slow her and bailed
crazy.gif
before running with her to catch Chez who, after that ordeal, just out his head down to eat some grass at the side of the road
mad.gif
mad.gif
sooooooooo naughty!!!!

the riding school tried to sell him, but it took then about a year!
crazy.gif
Eventually he was sold, can't remember who to, but as far as I am aware he is still there 5 years later!
smirk.gif
god knows how they manged to tame the wild beast lol
smirk.gif
laugh.gif

Toffee without a doubt! She always has and always will be in charge!
grin.gif
She naps if I choose a hack which isn't on her favourite "loop", she runs off with me every winter unless I use a Dutch gag, then she just rears instead! She will completely show me up SJ by refusing a jump until I am told to leave, then next round/attempt, fly over it like it's nothing! She has had an XC commentator laugh at her looking at "tigers" in a ditch she wouldn't go near, yet we have been placed and gone clear XC many times! Dressage varies totally on her mood, from 42% to 65%! Hunting she loves but I end up looking like Mr Tickle.... She runs away from anything except cars on the road....sometimes! One day we can hack on the buckle, next day it's like a death race! After having her for 6 years, last Friday she kicked my knee! I have a scar on my shoulder from a previous bite! But she is also very affectionate, has fallen asleep resting on my arms, neighs every time she sees me, lets me do stuff with her that none of per previous owners have ever managed. I have achieved more on her than any other horse and think she is FAB!
grin.gif

I had one many years ago who was absolute hell, however it wasnt his fault. I believe he was a rig as I have heard he has been passed around a lot since which is a real shame. He was only on loan to me for 7 months before we returned him. We kept him so long because we felt sorry for him! The owner had no money at all and basically showed him to my parents by getting her 13yo daughter to jump on him hat-less and canter him bareback AND bridle-less (ie. just a headcollar) up and down a tarmac road!!

He was a 13.2hh Trakhener x Welsh, very odd mix as he had the strength and attitude of a horse crammed into this little 13.2hh. He was a serious rig - he jumped fences to get to my shetland mare and twice got in with my gelding beating the living hell out of him. Funnily enough he was fine to ride up until he bolted with me up a field, through a gateway onto a road where upon his hooves went everywhere and we ended up skidding sideways down the road... Mum sent him back that same week.
